    I’m a huge fan of Star Wars and have been wanting to build a map in the Star Wars universe for a little while now. There are plenty of iconic locations, ships and battles that could be recreated in Forge. I’ve started and abandoned a few Death Star trench run projects over time, thought about recreating Echo Base or the Blockade Runner, stuff like that. But something about just recreating an existing thing from Star Wars never really inspired me and none of those ideas developed into anything tangible.


    With the announcement of the Extermination contest, I drug myself out of a forging rut and started cranking out blockouts pretty fast. I knew I wanted to make a map set in a hangar bay or something with a starship. From that point making the jump to something in the Star Wars universe was easy, and the theme presented a fun challenge for me as a fan. I started out by asking a question many Star Wars nerds have asked before…”What IS Tosche Station? Why does Luke go there to waste time with his friends? What are power converters?”


    Now, I know that there’s a deleted scene from A New Hope that shows Luke visiting Tosche Station to meet with Biggs and a few other friends of his. The scene deserved to be cut from the film and the set for Tosche Station is massively disappointing considering the infamy of the ‘power converters’ line. It doesn’t really look like a fun place to hang out, or a place where you could pickup power converters…It’s just another mud hut in the middle of the desert.

    Considering that George Lucas had a general fixation on movies and culture of the late 50s / early 60s, I made the assumption that when writing the character of Luke Skywalker, Lucas likely envisioned him as a parallel to the type of hot-rod obsessed high school students you see in Rebel Without a Cause or Lucas’ own film American Graffiti. That is to say that Luke and his friends are obsessed with racing, building and modifying land speeders and ships in the same way teenagers used to drag race hot rods. He is meant to be a typical American teenager of that era, except that instead of racing hot rods, he flies starships.


    So I designed the play space of Tosche Station to be a hangar on the back side where Luke stores his ship, the T-16 Skyhopper he uses to bullseye wamprats with down in Beggars’ Canyon. If you look out to the left side of the sky box, you can see the original Tosche Station building from A New Hope. I threw this in there to satisfy my nerd urges and keep the continuity intact. The map is set in an area of Tosche Station that isn’t shown on screen. One has to assume that if he really does bullseye wamprats in his T-16 back home, then the ship must be stored somewhere nearby. It doesn’t look like they have a hangar at the Lars homestead.

    So Luke is somewhere on the premises…His land speeder is parked outside and his T16 is ready to be loaded up with the power converters he used as an excuse to get away from the farm. He might just be having that conversation with Biggs around the corner for all we know.

    The map features a thermal detonator launcher as the main power weapon, as well as a storm rifle, a carbine, two splinters and a light rifle.

    The launcher spawns on a pillar in top mid and can be reached via clambering up the central structures off of spawn, or by jumping across the broken bridge on back wall. The storm rifle spawns below the small bridge structure on the back wall, and the carbine spawns above it. The light rifle spawns next to the ship. Clambering up to the highest level offers a height advantage on other players as well as a splinter grenade on each side.

    There is also a damage boost in bottom mid set to a 60 second timer. This is right below the ship.

    At the time of posting this, this map is still undergoing testing and is subject to changes as I prepare it for the Extermination contest. After the deadline, the map will be locked in it's current version until the end of the contest. Please let me know if you have any feedback in the mean time! I'd love to hear your suggestions. I will also be making prefab entries for the T-16 Skyhopper, Luke's Landspeeder and the GNK droid soon.

    The grenade launcher should be a sword. Give it a playable Jedi vibe

    Hey thanks for the feedback man! I've actually tested the map with a sword on it before but it didn't play as well as the launcher. It's too easy to sneak up behind someone and that wasn't fun for people on the receiving end.

    Always great to see a Star Wars map that looks great and plays well. Good job on the Skyhopper and the Landspeeder.
