Map Description

    Introduction

One day I was stumbling around looking at remakes of classic halo maps, I soon after realized that to my knowledge there was not a single truly good pit remake out there. They all had varying problems, or simply just were not true to the original pit. With this project, I aimed to fix that.

    --------------------------------------------------------

    Remaking a classic

My first step in recreating the pit was to pick a theme, I wanted to stick with a classic like vibe, yet still wanted it to feel like a training area. Shortly after I found the classic pit concept art drawn up by Bungie, and the theme was set.

I made sure all the correct angles and such were available, and all jumping spots were also available just like in the competitive version of The Pit.

    Weapon Layout

I wanted to stay somewhat classic in the weapon layout, but still wanted a variety of weapons to be available to the player. I tried to merge together the layout from the Classic pit and the MLG versions.

    Overshield x1

    Sniper Rifle x2

    Rocket Launcher x1

    Plasma Pistol x1

    Gunfighter Magnum x2

    Boltshot x2

    Needler x2

    Battle Rifle x2

    H2A Battle Rifle x2

    Carbine x2

    Plasma Rifle x2

    Assault Rifle x2

    SMG x2

    Plasma Grenades x4

    Frag Grenades x4

    Splinter Grenade x2

    --------------------------------------------------------

    Supported Gametypes

Currently, The Pit only supports Slayer, CTF and Strongholds, with 8 players maximum. I will be working on expanding this in the future, and will be hopefully adding oddball and assault to the supported gametypes list.

    Special Thanks

Huge shout outs to everyone who helped test the map, and my main dude Kabe, for being the one who truly wanted a good Pit remake. Shout outs go to everyone who has made a pit remake so far as well, this map wouldn't be what it is without looking at all the other remakes and what they did for right and wrong for certain areas of the map.

Thank You for reading the post, be sure to give me any feedback on what you may want changed, or if you run into any problems when playing the map. Be sure to follow me on xbox (GT- Foge) for more project updates and stuff. Peace Out

Recent Reviews

  1. After having played on this map several times, it is definitely one of my current favorites and maybe even the best Halo 5 Pit so far.

The play is absolutely solid, but it goes beyond the recreation of the Pit's layout. The map has been adjusted to fit Halo 5 play style, which is dramatically different than Halo 3's. All interactions on the map feel natural, both through the lens of Halo 5 and the lens of nostalgia.

Beyond gameplay, the theme is a polished A+. Alpine is but a mere backdrop for the training ground setting and the attention to minor details ensures there will be no mistaking the theme.

I'd recommend this map to anyone looking to blend Halo 5 and Halo 3 in a way that is both comfortable and enjoyable.

Personal Note: The pop-up targets are amazing and seeing them in action brings the map to life.

What sticks out to me on the screenshots aside from its pixel perfect recreation is the lighting. The tan/eggshell tones or whatever you used looks amazing and they really make the map stand out from other maps that I've seen.

Have you tried creating a roof like the original Pit or are you adhering to the concept art or object count? I think a roof would add a lot to the overall atmosphere.

    Thanks!

I wanted this to be the most accurate and best version of the pit so thanks.

Thanks, and yes I would love to include a roof like in the pit or even something like the original concept art had, but due to object limitations and impeding framerate, that simply wasn't possible at the current time.

Dayummmm. I'm honestly impressed at how good this looks with the wood textures and color. It feels very Pit-esque yet unique too. Nice job man.

Glad you feel that way, I aimed for the map to feel just like the pit, but look completely different at the same time.

This looks fantastic. Loved the original concept art when I saw it.

One question: how do you get around all of your wood accents being destructible? Projectile blockers?

They are all covered with projectile blockers. I've had to remove the majority of them from the map because of this, but it still looks almost exactly the same with normal wood textured blocks. The cover pieces on the towers use far too many as is, due to possible shifting of them in custom games.

Love your choice of aesthetics on this one. It's detailed where you'd expect it to be, but it's not overdone like some of the others I've seen. Excellent job!

Nice going!! Best Pit Remake I've seen son far.. I was going to build it but after this awesome remake why should I bother.. I wan't to play it but I don't have many friends to get the full slayer experience, so if you want you can add me on xbl and invite me.

If you need someone to test your maps you can count on me

Really liking the looks of this remake. Taking the art style of the concept art was a really nice direction too, as it's obviously similar- but ironically 'new'. Looks like you've done a really nice job and I'd love to see this in MM one day.
