Node To Joy is a blending of two concepts: One I had done in the past, and one I had not.
The first concept was to have an asymmetrical layout consisting of symmetrical spaces. My first iteration, Tiers of Joy, was divided amongst quadrants, whereas this Node To Joy is divided into thirds. That simple change created a far more interesting foundation for the layout.
The second concept was to have these spaces only directly connected through the center, while the teleporters would be the only way to travese the perimeter. I wanted to create a map that was a push against this anti-teleporter movement we’ve seen by the game industry. I wanted to show that with intuitive design, teleporters can bring an experience that is enjoyed by players of all collectives.
