In elvish Barad Estel means tower of hope. Hope is all that remains for the few survivors that still inhabit the fortress. The final assault has been launched and some nothing but ruins will remain...
So mount your fiery drake and join the chaos. You fight for the bright lord!
This map is inspired by the game, Middle Earth: Shadow of war.
When the contest was announced I immediately, like an idiot, decided I'd do a banshee race as it was different (I've never even done a mongoose/warthog race). I quickly realised exactly how big everything has to be scaled to cater for multiple banshees flying around the track at once.
The world in which the race takes place is consequently huge which has led to multiple lighting problems due to shadows looking different/not appearing properly at a large distance. In fact the map is covered with minor lighting issues which I ran out of time to fix.
I have also gone way beyond the physics budget (over 150%) in creating the surrounding landscape which has had who knows what effect on the map and it's performance etc.
The map contains a few scripted elements like flying boulders and a ballista that activate periodically. They are of very little threat to the player but help make the world feel alive. If you listen you will also hear the invading army chanting as they attack and a few other sounds to increase immersion.
Banshees are able to destroy each other as indestructible vehicles is turned off in the gametype. I feel this is more fun and chaotic and makes the race feel more like a battle. This setting can be changed it you would prefer it otherwise and the race can also work with wasps to if you prefer.
Despite its issues all in all I am proud with the map. There is a lot more polishing and work I would've liked to do with it and it's not my best work but I love the sense of scale it has and I encourage anyone playing it to maybe leave the main route or take your time to look at the environment around you.
As always enjoy and leave any feedback down below...
