About the Guild.
The Tester's Guild has been an established part of the community for close to a year now. Resting in the ForgeHub Forums, it is a community within a community. It began as a few stuck threads in Forge Discussion. Now, we have a full-fledged sub-forum. As our popularity grows, our member list grows. We stand over 100 members strong and we are continuing to grow. The continuous expansion of the Testers Guild has allowed us to obtain what makes a community strong such as flavorful members. The guild is compromised of many different types of people. We have some resident forge gurus, geometry wizards, spawn point specialists, map flow masters, placement paladins and more. We are a group of Halo 3 players who all share a common love for Halo 3 Forge, Halo 3 Custom Games, the ForgeHub Community, and much more. We go much beyond Halo 3 and spend a lot of time together off the playing field. We're not just teammates, but comrades, friends, partners, and all share a connecting bond with each other. This bond has made the Testers Guild the strong community it is today.
What does the guild do for the community?
The purpose of the Testers Guild is self-explanatory. We test finished maps, but not released maps for the community. We scan for problems in the geometry, flaws in the map flow, imbalances, spawn issues and more. Testing with the Tester's Guild is like having your own private custom match. Each tester brings something new to the test. Some know everything there is to know about weapon placement while some are master forgers. So whatever it is, each tester is an asset to the team, and we commend them, and so should you. Every tester gives you a different opinion on the map’s gameplay. This is what makes the Guild an important resource. Our feedback is constructed clearly and concisely so that map creators can rework their maps for optimal playability. The more maps that are tested mean the more optimized maps, thus making ForgeHub a stronger forging community.
So how exactly does the Tester’s Guild test?
A member of forgehub posts a thread in the Tester’s Guild section, which is located here: Tester’s Guild Main forum . Testers sign up for test sessions in the main forum. The map creator then hosts the test session. The Tester's join the session in which they signed up for. Following the test session the testers will leave feedback for the map creator in the Test Feedback Forum . Important map feedback information can be found through the following links: Map Termonology, Giving proper feedback, and Feedback forum rules.
How do we give feedback?
We post a write up in the Test Feedback Forum. It shows you have attended the test session, you know what you’re talking about, and map creators are able to reference the written feedback when they need it. In addition, it shows other map creators your work and increases the likelihood of repeated testing. Feedback should include likes, dislikes, and what can be improved. A general rule of thumb: written feedback should be at least a paragraph, but no more than four.
What sort of events does the Guild host?
The Tester's Guild may have some serious business to do, but we also love to party. Along with the usual/casual get-togethers that just spontaneously pop up, and the IRC lolparades, there have been a few set events as the guild grows. First off we've begun to have weekly Tester parties. It's on Saturday on TGIF weeks, and on Fridays every other week. We hope to have several parties going every week. Once this system gets going well (hopefully within 2 weeks) we will open the parties to the public on the Friday parties. Hosts will be Seniors+ of the guild.
Ranks:
Recruits:
Recruits are temporary members who must meet the staffs expectations in order for them to be permanently accepted to the guild. Recruits have a two week period in which they must test and leave feedback on four tests or more. Failure to meet these requirements will result in the recruit being removed from the guild. Staff can extend the period of time in which a recruit is to prove themselves.
Junior Members:
Junior members are the first permanent rank within the guild. They are new to testing and have much to learn from more experienced Tester's. This member group may need some guidance in the ways of testing.
Members:
The member rank is the first solid rank within the guild. Tester's who've reached this status have shown promise of being an excellent Tester. With an abundance of feedback under there belt these Tester's give valued feedback, act maturely, and most important are consistent.
Full Members:
The veterans of many tests. The full member goes above and beyond the call to duty. Has provided amazing feedback, tested a ton of maps, and shows promise in the areas of teamwork and unity.
Senior Members:
Senior members have proven themselves to the guild by showing outstanding qualities such as: showing leadership, forge knowledge, teamwork, and unity.
Guild Leaders:
Only hand picked members and our grand creator, Insane54, are in this small group of Testers. These people make sure the Guild is working well and keep everything in check.
What do we look for when promoting members? - Multiple tests
- Great feedback
- Supporting the Guild in Skype or otherwise
- Contributing in other ways to the Guild
What are stars and what do they do?
Stars are given out to members who pull there weight within the guild. They sign up for and test scheduled tests. In addition, they may even go to unscheduled tests. The most important thing in getting stars is the way you present and give your feedback. When the staff of the guild notices your dedication, good behavior, good testing habits, etc. You will receive a star. Upon receiving your fourth star you will go up a rank. This doesn't apply to senior members, who cannot receive stars. The process repeats itself. Slowly but surely.
