Review Rules

Review Rules

The aim of this guide is to quickly inform you of the requirements of reviewing a map. Before you begin, please note that official reviews are only permitted to Review Hub members. If you think you are up to the task then you may apply for a position here. Be aware that we maintain high standards and only look for the most dedicated, well presented individuals.

  • Providing you are a member, you are free to find a map to Review. People will submit maps for review in this board. Maps that have been approved by a member of the Testers Guild are eligible for review. If you want to review a map, post in the submission thread to inform the map owner that you will be reviewing it shortly.
  • Non-Review Hub members are not permitted to post 'Official Review Hub' reviews. However, they are allowed to post reviews in map threads so long as they make it clear that they are not an official member of the Review Hub. If you are applying for membership, this can help provide us with further examples of your journalistic style.
  • To review, you are going to need some Review Hub members with you in the party. You are encouraged to add as many of them as you can. You can find their Xbox Live Gamertags here. It is strongly encouraged that you review a map with at least 50% of the party consisting of Review Hub or Testers Guild members.
  • Once you have some people, you need to organize a match. Make sure you take into account other timezones and the number of players you will need, which you will find in the map thread.
  • If custom gametypes were provided, make sure you play them. Try to test on a range of gametypes if possible, and make sure you have balanced teams. Make sure you know which members are present and how many players are present because you will need to add these details into your review later.
  • While playing, try to test the map as best you can. See if you can use weapons and locations in an overpowering way. See if you can escape, or predict and trap the spawn points. Make sure you discuss your thoughts with other members on your team, and find out what they think of it too.
  • Between matches, be sure to discuss your thoughts with members from the other team. Try to make conclusions on certain aspects of the map. If areas need improving, work out where, how and why. Note these observations down on paper for easy reference later.
  • If you are confident you have learned everything you need to write a highly informative, unbiased and helpful review, then you should end the game session and begin writing.
  • Get hold of the Map Rating Criteria and give it a read through so you know what to write. Don't compose straight into the map thread, write up your review in a seperate page or program. Be sure to keep reading through what you have written.
  • If you think your Review is finished and cannot be further improved, then you may now post it in the thread. Be sure to check that all the appropriate information is present. Good job on your review!
  • Review Hub members are not permitted to review more than 1 map per week. Instead they are encourated to write high quality, descriptive reviews.
