Fossil canyon

What was once a vast desert with ancient fossil remains is now used as part of a racetrack by spartans.

What's up everybody this is my newest race map, FOSSIL CANYON. I don't know about you guys, but I am getting kind of bored of the same old twisty/turny track with no aesthetics to it. Dont get me wrong, a lot of them are AMAZING tracks that are forged to perfection, but racetracks are just so much more fun when you add in aesthetic elements to keep things interesting on your way around the track. That is why I decided to make this track. Its fun, and it looks cool. :) This track took me a very long time to complete, and it took a lot of testing after that to get everything right. This was my first time making a banked turn and MAN WAS IT HARD! haha If anyone wants to show me the easiest way to make banked turns. please message me :) lol anyways, It takes place on the outer boundaries of sandbox. There are the fossils of a large dinosaur that you drive through the mouth and then the spine of. Also after you go down the hill there is a large dinosaur heading towards the track. There are also a few tunnels and jumps. ENJOY :) and give me feedback, let me know what you think. thanks.

Fossil Remains that you drive through

What you encounter after exiting the spine of the fossil ramains

moon bounce up to banked turn - very smooth transition

First tunnel - blue

exit blue tunnel to wooden ramp over killball (make sure to keep your speed up!)

red tunnel

exit red tunnel to steep hill to finish line

track overview

Youtube video is now up! :)

The aesthetics on this map are damn impressive. Since most of the racetrack floor is the map geometry itself, it looks like it should be very smooth too. Aesthetics and smooth racing in one map - isn't that what it's all about? Definite DL here. Keep 'em coming.

Woah nice track! Quick question, did you get the name and the dino-skeleton-on-track idea from Diddy Kong Racing? I used to love that game and was just wondering. But, ANYWAYS, the track should be incredibly smooth seeing how most of it is on the ground but shouldn't you move the finish line to that banked turn above the ground after the dinos because otherwise whats stopping anyone from skipping that part and going straight for the tunnel?

Lol, in the second picture, with the dinosaur heading towards the track, that doesn't look like a tail, just something random sticking out of it's ass. This race map is probably the most aesthetic race map I have ever seen. It looks awsome, especially the first dinosaur that you have to drive through. I bet that too a VERY long time to make only that section. Might I ask you where the banked turn is? Most likely going to be a dl from me. This looks amazing aesthetic wise.

Don't you just looove the extremely short and easy tracks that take forever to make?

Anyways, excelent map. 5/5

T-T I don't have enough room in my sig to explain the game T-T

Haha, the dinosaur is great, it looks like Flinstones! Map traack wise, it's kind of bland, and look fairly narrow, but I'm just looking at the pics right now. I'll download this and see how it works.

Yes, I did get my inspiration from this track from DK racing :) haha. Also, about the finish line - sorry i took kind of a bad pic but there are blocks there that keep you on the track, so you cannot skip to the part with the tunnel. Good question though! I'll post a video so people can get a better idea of the overall track

The banked turn is in the 3rd pic down and also in the overview pic past the 2nd dinosaur. And ya, you finish your map and it looks so simple but the forging in reality is complex and takes forever! haha :)

I downloaded this map yesterday to see how well it runs. I was impressed, but it had a few critical errors. For example, inconsistent geometry and bumpy transitions can force you to miss vital jumps, such as the kill ball and shield door jump. Also It is very easily broken and it is very tempting to go inside the crypt. Overall you have the right idea for a racetrack, however I feel that you placed aesthetics before gameplay in this map which should hardly ever happen. Work on increasing the effectiveness of your geometry, and try an salvage the replayability factor. Then you'd be good to go.

Thanks to Jessica Alba for the sig!
:D

Thanks for the feedback ForgeGod, I appreciate it. In reference to your comment about bumpy transitions and missing vital jumps like the ramp with the kill ball, I guess you could consider this a track for intermediate to advanced drivers then. Because if you know what you are doing you will make it every time. (watch the video above). If you want to make the killball ramp every time, just slightly let off the gas right before you enter the downhill section into the blue tunnel. It will prevent you from flying over the section and losing any speed, thus giving you enough, if not more than enough to make the jump. I never said it was going to be the easiest track. :) There are some parts where you have to use strategy over speed, and you may need to let your thumb off the joystick for a split second. In my opinion tracks are a little more fun when they require at least a little bit of skill.

Oh just one question though. Why would it be tempting to go into the crypt? That would be absolutely pointless and would only cause you to be stuck and lose the race. If someone wants to go into the crypt, then oh well thats their problem. haha

The aesthetics on this map are quite awesome. The whole dinosaur idea is great. The racing track being on the dunes creates a nice freestyle look and feel to it. Can't wait to play it!
