Guillotine (1v1)

GUILLOTINE
1v1

You've dropped into Halo 3 ODST, now prepare to drop into Guillotine!

After a total of roughly nine months of off and on forging, Guillotine is ready for the masses. It started out as a small sketchup designed by iTs Nexn, that everyone seamed to just pass right up in the adoption thread. Here is the original sketchup:

Now in order to make a working spawn system, there were several changes made to the design, however it still keeps the same concept and about 80% of the original geometry. Using quicker respawning powerups and weapons in key areas of this map promote movement unlike anything you've seen before. Dominant positions are burdened with less "attractions" to keep you from sitting around the map. Given the small size of Guillotine, your games will be very fast paced and packed full of in-your-face-action to keep your blood pumping. Of course, the video below should set you more into the mood and give you what you can expect out of Guillotine. Take a look:

(NOTE: Video was made when the map was in Beta testing. Some small geometry changes have been made)

Here are a few screenshots just to meet map posting standards(the video should've been more than enough):

Players:
2 Players MAX. Anymore will completely break the spawn system.

Weapon/PowerUp List:
2 - Sniper Rifles(60/90 sec./ no spare clips)
3 - Battle Rifles(10 sec./1 spare clip)
1 - Carbine(60 sec./1 spare clip)
4 - Frags(30 sec.)
4 - Plasmas(30 sec.)
1 - Custom Powerup(45 sec./2X overshield)
1 - Invisiblity(120 sec.)

Guillotine is set up for 1v1, so you will of course need a custom gametype in order to run the map. You must use the most recent version of the "MLG Forge 1v1" gametype, which will be located below for download. DO NOT play on this map without the proper gametype as the settings will NOT work with the map correctly.

Some things you should know about Guillotine
- There are only 7 spawn points on the map..........7.
- I have spent over 200 hours getting this map ready for the public. Over half of that time was spent on the spawn system and testing alone.
- The orginal design by Nexn was completely forged before Ghost merging was discovered.
- The small size of Guillotine means the spawns are very playable, but can work out to your disadvantage depending on your location. Since most of the spawn points are around the outside of the map, try not to spend too much time in the middle as you won't be very far from your opponents respawn.
- The gameplay should be very comparable to Greenhouse, Alpine, Knockout, and the like. Learn to time the powerups and weapons, as they will be cruicial to the end result.
-While most of these other 1v1 maps have played with 45 sec. Customs and 60 sec. Camo's, Guillotine plays much smoother with the 45/120 timers and may end up pioneering that setup for future 1v1 maps. Even the great Zanno's Greenhouse's latest version 2.1 has met the upgrade to 45/120 timers.
- Guillotine is some hieght variations and an instant respawn away from being an Octogon. Stay on your toes!

And of course I have to thank all the poeple that have helped work on the map, helped test the map, and even just given critique based on pictures....thank all of you.

This looks amazingly well forged and designed. The aethstestics could be better, but it's a 1 v 1, so w/e.

The biggest "flaw" i can see is that you picked a really bad time to realease it. with the conflict tourny, most people already have a bunch of amazingly well forged and designed 1 v 1 maps. At least this one is on foundery.

oh well, it doesn't detract from how good your map is, but it might detract from DL's/popularity. Good luck never the less, and again, nice map.

Or, on a happier note:

very nicely forged. the layout is really organic and has real flow to it, there are very few places that you need to jump to, but there are a lot of opportunities where jumping can get you to your destination faster. i understand it's not your design, but the forging is amazing and i doubt it couldve been executed any better and the changes that you did make really improved the map as a whole.
as for the post, it seems like you made some changes since you took the screenshots and posted the movie (ei the grav lift, and you took out the walls in the first pic. not a big issue, but you might want to add that you made changes.
10/10

my  maps

@ Satan130
Well the conflict tourney has some problems that myself and many others can't stand. The biggest thing would be radar. My buddy TaK was beat in the first round by someone that just kept running away from him the whole game once he got the lead. There is no such thing as that in Guillotine. If you don't keep the powerups and weapons controlled, you lose. Also, poor weapon choice for 1v1's like plasma rifles and the like, lead to people sitting around corners getting free kills.
I firmly believe in the 1v1 map itself to promote good, fair and competetive gameplay. Camping around corners and running away from your enemy all game just doesn't fit into that category for me.
Having said that, I did see a few of the Conflict touney maps that were amazing and I fully support and enjoy. So basically what I'm saying is if you are more of a MLG fan, than this 1v1 should be what your looking for.

@ sourdauer
I did post a note under the video that changes were made to the map after the video was made. However I do see your point. I will go back and take a few screenshots of the final geometry.

i liek ur structures but ur map r liek baaad tiem bcuz we r doeen CONFLICT turny GUY

Uh, srsface...I like it, alot. Haven't gotten a chance to play through it yet but I gave it a quick forgethrough till then...I like the spawn system and way you use weapons to prevent camping...but honestly, most MLG maps (especially the 1v1 MLG maps) do that just fine. Making it interesting is different and much harder (my halfdefense of Conflict maps), but I can see really fast-paced gameplay, so should last for some fun games.

At a glance, though, it looks like the height advantage is less of an advantage and more of a necessity. There's no LoSs (offhand..) to shoot into the top areas (like where the B sign is in the pictures, under the dumpster)...though I'd like to play a game or two before I make a statement on that, as there are quite a few ways up to that area....just never really been a fan of maps you NEED the high ground (like the majority of bad Ons remakes).

Really like your spawn system, BTW, though unless you're TRYING to promote spawn control as a part of the game (which I like in normal MLG, but can't stand in a 1v1), I don't see the point of that few spawn points.

this map is incredible. It looks like you spent hours and hours forging this. The forging is very complex but the map is easy to navigate. I love the video. I think it is great when I get to see gameplay videos of a map, not nearly enough people include videos like that. This map deserves a feature without question. I am a huge 1v1 fan, it is one of my favorite things to do in halo and this map has become one of my new favorites. It is so fresh and just beautiful to look at. Keep up the forging, you can compete with any forger on this site in my opinion. 5/5 all the way.

Like everybody else said I think this map is wonderfully merged, I need a few more screenshots to get a look at it, but from what i see so far, I really don't see any negatives to it.
