Ghost Merging

I have actually been working on my first REAL might actually not look like crap map. I most likely won't be great but hey we all gotta start somewhere. Anyway while viewing some posts I noticed people asking whether or not ghost merging was used.

Just out of curiosity is this just because they are curious or is the map considered almost not as good or something along those lines simply because the creator used a method easier than traditional geomerging.

All I seem to do is ask questions here. I have yet to contribute positivity to the community.

Ghost merging usually makes things a lot smoother and can make some nice scenery so some are just curious if it was used or if you did it the hard way. Some people may not respect a map as much if it was ghost merged because it is so easy.

I hate it when people ask, it does not matter which method you used, people use whatever is best, not whatever is hardest.

I predict sometime soon when everyone is over it being a "new glitch" people will stop asking.

I'm in no way official in saying this, but the conclusion of what Bungie features is entirely up to themselves. They choice to feature in the past maps that have interlocking as well maps that geomerge so the fact ghost merging is geomerging and interlocking combined should not adhere to any restrictions keeping you from using this method. Go ahead it should be fine.

Before you try ghost merging, I suggest you begin with the old way. This requires more skill, but actually has benefits, such as allowing an object to be placed more than halfway under without self merging. The old style of merging gives you a real appreciation for ghost merging and can be a very useful tool in map making, despite the archaic nature.

Go ahead and use whatever method you feel that you should use. Ghost merging doesn't look any different than merging, it's just easier. Nobody can load up a map and be like "oh, yup, it's ghost merged". Don't be afraid that people are going to give you lip because you ghost merged you object bc they'll never know unless you tell them. There's nothing to hide anyway, it's a good thing. And bungie won't put maps in matchmaking that are budget glitched bc of lag issues. As far as I'm aware, merging doesn't cause lag so you should be fine.

That is completely incorrect, so what if it's easier, the only people who are upset with ghost merging are the ones who don't want forge to advance to the next level of creation.

Questions are the way to form opinions, opinions lead to positive feedback. (most of the time...)

People who haven't put much thought into it think a ghost merged map is somehow worse than a non-ghosted map. Its the same effect you quoted me in your sig for, pure I-can-do-this-and-you-can't elitism :) :) :)

BTW, damn it feels good to be sig'd lol, thanks
