Ultimate Sketchup Template Compilation

Ultimate Sandbox Sketchup Template

by WhtButterflyLiz

Google Sketchup

I received permission to post this here, and I know it will benefit a lot of people in this community who like to plan their maps out in advance, or when they can't get to the xbox (like a certain working squid).

I've seen quite a few sketchup templates that help us out in Forge, but I've never come across one as detailed as this. All three areas of Sandbox are available to use as you see fit, and all of the major Scenery components (even teleporters and shield doors) are fully textured. It was created by WhtButterflyLiz, who works with sketchup for a living. She's even offered up a few tips on how to use it:
Quote:
-It's a rather large file because all the components are textured with screenshots of the actual object in Halo 3. By default I have the sand dunes turned off because they're a massive memory hog. They are on layer "Terrain" if you'd like to see them or render shots with them in. =)

-All of the components are accurate size in relation to the grid and one another. Whether the grid is actually 10' x 10' squares I can't guarantee.... but the only thing that is a best-guess approximate is the sand dune terrain itself.

-One thing that's a bit of a pain in the butt but I think is worth it : the skyline cylinder is invisible if you look at it from the outside (inside shows the panorama), but it is still selectable. So make sure you're actually inside the cylinder while trying to manipulate things or else you may inadvertently be changing the whole skybox component. The cylinder might get in your way, if it does just right click and select 'hide'.

-For those of you newer to sketchup - all of the forge-able scenery is already IN the file, you just can't see it automatically. You need to go to Window -> Components. Click that and a small window will pop up with a picture of a cube at the top, a few tabs under that, and a big white-space list under that. If you click the button that looks like a house just underneath the tabs, it will display all components in the model. At that point you should have a big list of items with pictures on the left and titles on the right. Titles match the ones in the game.

To get inside the crypt you double click on the crypt, which will open up the "skybox" component. If you then click on the crypt again you should get a group of three walls. Right click and select "hide" and they'll disappear, allowing you to work inside the crypt.
Now, this isn't going to be a "how do I use sketchup" tutorial. There are plenty of great tuts available elsewhere. This is meant for people who are already familiar with using sketchup and like to use these templates for concocting ideas. I'll try and help out where I can, but I'm not gonna teach you how to use it. Hope you all enjoy.

Foundry Sketchup Template

Hey guys. Thought I’d give a little bit more punch to the community and help with easing the design layout process most forgers struggle with. Download my Halo 3 forge Sketchup components and show your creative designs in a more pristine and accurate scheme.

Download – Google Sketchup

Download – Halo 3 Forge Foundry Components

ForgeGuru.com

To open custom foundry components for drag and drop:

Select Window > Components.

To save a picture for web and devices:

Select File > Export > 2D Graphic.

The Export 2D Graphic dialog box is displayed.

Useful Hotkeys:

Select - Space Bar
Line - L
Move - M

3 Button Mouse Navigation:

Zoom - Scroll the wheel to Zoom in or out. Use your cursor to choose the part of your model you zoom to
Orbit - Press the scroll wheel like a button and hold as you move your mouse to Orbit your model
Pan- While Orbiting, hold shift on your keyboard to Pan

I hope this Sketchup Model file gets used well and becomes very useful to forgers with great designs and Ideas.

Let me know if there is a problem with my site servers. Feel free to participate in the forge like a pro contest at forgehub.com and have fun with this.
- Fritzster

Perfect Cure

This is the perfect cure for those of us who haven't gotten the Mythic Maps yet. I just paid bills this month and won't be able to get them until the 15th. Until then I will be able to plan a few projects. Thanks.

Awesomesauce Liz!

I am loving this, and it's giving me the opportunity to check out if my ideas are feasible before going into forge and wasting time.

H3ITWP FTW!

Not to take away from AZN's work, but This is WAY MORE detailed than what AZN did earlier. and the texture options are really great. ima DL this one and unfortunately delete the old one :]

Either this chick saved Fritzster a shit load of time, or it just killed all the progress he's made, and he now has a bunch of useless components.

Poor guy...

Anyways, what's done is done. This is something the community needed to have their hands on as soon as possible, and here it is.

Thanks random chick, that I've never heard of, who's apparently super bad-ass with sketchup.

That looks amazing WhtButterflyLiz.

The model looks incredible and on top of that it's accurate with the three sandbox levels. Thank you very much; lots of people will appreciate the new sandbox sketch up here.

Didn't mean to step on anyone else's toes... just figured that this was the best way I could give back to the community the present that I got two weeks ago in the form of an early access code.

I hope it will be of some good use to y'all. =)

Oh - and something I just realized I didn't mention before - the blue rectangles you see in the picture are at the height of the soft ceilings for the ground level and the skybox level, in case you were wondering. =P

Glitch, it took a full week to crank this out. Lessee.... about 75 hrs. I was going to put in a couple more items (mancannon, grav lift, fusion coil, UNSC barricade) but I wanted to ship it by Friday (this past Friday is when I first posted it over at b.net in a private group) and figured those kinds of things that weren't unique to sandbox had to be floating out in the Halo sketchup world already. =)

Tex - look me up on YouTube. I'm not totally random. Just new around these parts. hehe. ;)
