For those of you thinking that this will result in online cheating, a simple fix would to simply allow it for online custom games. I don't imagine that would be to hard, right? Since it is only possible in local/custom anyway (unless, are you able to do it in Campaign? Cause I don't think so.) Also, it would be nice if they could redo the buttons, but that would be asking a bit much. Lowering guns in general would be great. I wish to start doing machinima for editing practice myself, and I don't have any local friends to do this with, so I would be alone, making it hard to pull off anything decent.

We also owe you an explanation regarding the Machinima button-press that lowers your weapon. The complaint is that the Easter egg can’t be used during custom games on Xbox Live. There are some perfectly good reasons for this: One is that if you could use this Easter egg in online games, it’s an animation that would need to be tested for possible abuse. If that sounds absurd, then you should recall BXR – an animation that can be abused.
When you make a video game, you have to plan time and resources sensibly – a test cycle with engineering, art and animation impact for a small Easter egg – is not a sensible use of our schedule. So we’re sorry to the folks this impacts, but we have to be practical.

Thats what they said about it back in november
Bungie.net : Inside Bungie : News
I think its worth a try with this "lower the guns" stuff. A couple of thousand people not playing halo 3 for a day will obviously not force bungie to change anything. I do think however that the attention the campaign is building may catch their interest and perhaps reconsider. Hopefully the group will grow and many of the top halo sites will be having these discussions.
There have been no bugs found by the community and now halo is fairly old there will be less controversy in them enabling and testing things. If a problem does arise they can disable it again. Clearly there isnt a chance of it causing a big problem like crashing your xbox otherwise it wouldn't be in the game at all. As long as it isnt too difficult to enable I think there some chance itll work.

I personally do not think it's there. Does that mean it isn't? Certainly not. It is just an opinion, and nothing more.

It's there when you system link so it's obviously in multiplayer. It's the same codec for offline multiplayer as online. Hell even campaign shares some of the same codec with multiplayer. An example would be when weaponless elites melee or throw grenades.
Trust me the option is there but disabled.

I, DrawingMan the lazy Machinma Maker, approve of this cause 1,000% and im wishing for this to actually take effect. I can already imagine the possibilities with my weapons down on Xbl.
but in the meantime, since were not gonna be on Halo 3, why dont we all play some Free Roaming GTA4, Ill make another GTA Randomnesstage or something. Whos with me?

Yes, it's disabled in Xbox Live. But a patch for Halo 3 to do so would have to modify the actual engine, as I described in the topic that Dragoncoals made.
There are several things in the game of Halo 3 that can't be modified, such as anything inside of the engine. The engine handles physics, AI, spawning, player profiles, and a few other things I haven't mentioned.
The engine is programmed to recognize that specific files are allowed to be patched over by files placed in the Xbox 360 HDD. This is why it's possible to have DLC Maps, Forge Maps, Screenshots, Custom Gametypes, and Videos.
However, the engine is not able to patch itself. This is why things like new armor perms, colors, emblems, control setups, player models, physics (to a certain extent, it's not possible to modify. For an example, you can alter a map to make it zero gravity, but you can't make it so that basic physics of the game are ignored completely.), intro videos, and some things not mentioned in the above, are not possible to modify easliy with a simple patch.
The easiest way I could think of would be to recompile the code of the engine to allow weapon lowering, and then distribute the new game as Halo 3.01 or something. But I think it should be obvious why not.

It is in the engine... As soon as you disconnect from XBL it is there. LAN games are exactly the same as XBL matches and use the same engine. Hell even the autoupdates apply to LAN.

Said auto-updates update map files, not the engine.
