Custom Guitar Project - Savage V

As some may know, I am a musician (more specifically a guitarist). Recently, I have been having the desire to actually make my own guitar, and if I should somehow make a few awesome guitars, I would sell them to make a little extra money.

So, I present one of my designs for a custom guitar:

The Savage V

Concept Art done in MS Paint - Not the actual guitar.

This guitar was designed, from the very beginning to be a re-imagining of the "V" guitar body style. As you can see, the design is very "Metal'esque". The cuts and curves of the body are where the guitar gets it's name from, they also make this guitar more comfortable to play compared to other V's, as it has contours that the guitarist can use to rest the guitar on his leg.

Nearly every part of this guitar will be custom made (excluding hardware). There are custom pearl inlays of my initials "CP" in the headstock. (most likely going to be redesigned, as the current version is kinda lame.)

The Negative spaces in the body are going to be holes going right through the body, to add to this guitar's unique look.

For my fellow guitarists, I have list of some of the guitar's specs:

Here are a few possible finishes as well:

Grey

Wine Red

Midnight Blue

I will update this thread as I make progress on the guitar.

I will update this thread as I make progress with the guitar. Feel free to provide any Constructive Criticism you may have, especially if you have made a guitar before.

It looks like a solid design, i recently helped make a Gibson out of metal, yeah its a heavy sob but looks tight. Everyone said we wouldn't finish it but muhahaha we did. Only real suggestion for it is the bottom, the area used for resting the guitar, i think that the spike on it in between the first and second pickup and the neck should be a little bit wider. Maybe almost in line with the 2nd pickup on the guitar.

Yeah, I wasn't too sure about that spike, I see into moving it. I was also thinking about either a Satin Finish or A burst, but I'm not entirely sure as of yet.

Thank you for your complement and advice.

Sure you can make a guitar, but can you make a quality guitar? That's the real question. Anything can look nice but what really matters is if it plays nice.

Well, I'm going to try my best.

I'm currently learning from a luthier I know, so hopefully his knowledge will rub off on me.

I'm no fan of flying V's. That said, it doesn't look bad. The contour to the guitarist's leg is nice, but no metal guitarist will ever play the guitar sitting down lawl. Also, it would totally add cool points, if you reversed the headstock.

Well, when I am just practicing/noodling, I usually sit down. A reverse headstock is cool, but I'm skeptical on how it may look on this particular guitar.

Dude i would so go with the Satin finish, i think it would make the lines look alot more clean. A Burst could work though especially with the design of the guitar. Keep us updated im interested to see how this turns out.

I've been thinking it over, I'm either going with a Satin Red Finish, or a Grey finish similar to one on an Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II.

This one:

You're making this from scratch? How long do guitars take to make by hand?

That would be pretty awesome if you end up starting a company and making the most epic guitars ever.
