Windows Media center Video Capture?

I recently saw a thread (not on forge Hub) with a little snippet of info that seemed like it was saying Windows Media Center had a "capture card" like function. I lost this thread and never looked into. Now I am interested in making machinima and I don't want to spend money on a capture cad, if I don't have too. My 360 is connected to my monitor on my computer and I was wondering if there was any way I could record footage through my computer/monitor. Please help.
