You can LEARN that though, unlike something like showing a picture of yourself, which is a conscience decision, but I'm not going to argue, merely a suggestion! XD

there are positives and minuses to that.

positive is more votes, this becomes public.

negatives is more extraneous votes where people will simply post a name without reasoning. Most people won't even read the SOTW rules, and they will also pick the "coolest" looking one...

now i know im sounding elitist here but i believe that the votes should be picked by those with an artistic eye.. now being on forgehub there are many people who do have them who don't frequent G&A.. this could lead to voting based not on effects and the work done but on the "coolness" of the stock/render.

for example, if someone made an amazing vector art, and another person lightened a couple c4d's on an even more amazing screenshot.. the screenshot would get the votes even if they worked less hard and their work didn't really show up.

the other thing is the amount of random votes we would get, usually not containing reasoning behind it. in the SOTY last year, we just had people post the name i believe, and this could be done, but would result in above becoming more frequent.

just my comments on it..

Pros: more attention, more votes for more competition, new members (a HUGE plus, i would love to see people pick up design), and front page recognition..

Cons: Not all experienced votes, many will be names with descriptions unless in large bold font at the top it says "YOU MUST STATE YOUR REASONING BEHIND THE VOTE". even so, many will simply say "it's cool.", lots to count up = lots of work for linu...

and Arvas, as i said, it could be your alias (the name you use on the forums, e.g. knight kninja.. Arvas.. LOCK.xcf..) instead or as well..

and one more suggestion.. freestyle.. not expecting it to get chosen but throwing it out there because it would allow people to work in areas that they are comfortable in and, in turn, put their best work out. another rule to be made would be it would have to be new. that way everyone puts their work in.

but we have done freestyle quite recently..

EDIT: oh and Arvas, yeah, .gif's would be a good idea, but maybe for another week.. since this is a special SOTW, we want to be able to do our best.. i barely can save a .gif without it screwing up xD

.gifs are annoying to work with... you always wind up having to sacrifice quality so that they load in a reasonable amount of time...

I agree with "gold" and the number "50." Those themes could produce some really great sigs.
