Hoover Gorge
Hoover Gorge made by The Yellow
Medium
8-12 Players
Information:
Haha, now on to the map. Well, as the name may imply, there is a large dam in the map. But that really isn't the primary focus, but rather the primary aesthetic piece. Rather it is a dogon village based on the rocky cliffs separated by a river carved from the water. The dam itself has pipes running along with it that lead into the water to transfer from one side to the other.
The map is a medium sized battle zone with a great use of key points high and low alike. It is open aired in some areas but there is sufficient cover. Sniping on this map is a large role but seeing as it is meant to be played with party sizes around 8-12 players they will not dominate it entirely. Close quarters combat is as intense as ever on switchbacks and rocks.
The two sides of the map are unique and each offer one part of the balance of the map. The UFLL spawn side, or the attacker area is a more lean and long slope that runs along the side of a cliff. It features less depth as the other side as it is more ideal for an offensive position. The UFLL portion is an ideal location for a few experienced snipers to aid their teammates. One thing to note is the location of the paraglider on this side, it rests on the highest area of the map on top of a wooden platform accessed by a ladder near the top rear.
In between the two sides there are two bridges. Additionally there are multiple areas where rocks jut out and form overhangs or small cave like underpasses. You could traverse these rocks to get to the opposite side along with bridges. If you decide to swim or take a boat there are several rocky ramp formations leading up to both bases.
The opposing APR spawn is much different. It features a much deeper play area and more variation in the geometry. The side passages are those of switchbacks, a back and forth ramp carved into the side of a cliff. The bridges will be a highly traversed path to access this side, both the low hanging foot bridge and the higher more stern wooden bridge. It is safe to say that more of the close quarters combat will take place in the defensive side compared to the offensive UFLL portion where medium to long range combat is dominant.
More about the map's aesthetic features are the geometry and dogon villages. I took very much care into making the cliffs, the dam and even the structure placement as official and believable as possible. Other great maps have not been brought up to their full potential due to the creator's having a lack of understanding of all aspects of the terrain editor. But perhaps some people by seeing my map will realize how to accomplish certain things, such as switchbacks by alternating ramps using the ramp tool. Other things about Hoover Gorge that will set it apart are secrets and hidden passages. Not necessarily a hidden cave but rather alternate methods of accomplishing the same goal that may not be obvious. I find qualities like that to make maps the most enjoyable. But it is up to you to discover these things and to choose how and when you are to use them. Just remember that the two paragliders in Hoover Gorge are quite useful and allow quick transit to or from a hot battle zone.
Unfortunately the map database is still unavailable at the current time so I will have to ask you to search map name "Hoover Gorge" in order to download it. I will update this thread as soon as the database is up but t'ill then please look it up I promise you this map is at least worth a look to get your interest.
Thank you, one last thing I would like to say that the idea for this map was original. I built the dam first as simply flat. But then I saw another map with a dam called "Renevista" and I loved the design. So I did slightly adapt that design for the dam so I must give credit where credit is due.
Thanks to the few of you that helped me play early games on this and I am looking forward to seeing you all online. A big thank you to sdrakulich for being helpful and offering his opinions. Thank you so much Grave Digger for offering your advice which lead to me adding the rock overhangs, blocking off some of the houses and fixing the dam. My gamer tag is The YeIIow with two capital i's.
Thank you!

Once again the dam was an original idea of mine I didn't get it form another map but the design itself is a slight adaptation to one found in "Renevista", but my map is completely different so don't worry.
