Welcome avid readers to the Forge Hub community Spotlight. Here we highlight some of the shiny stars, as well as under looked talents, using anything from inquisitive interviews, to map highlights and anything else that we feel has gone without enough notice. This week on the Community Spotlight we have Conquest in Matchmaking, a group dedicated to getting a Forge Hub classic into matchmaking. Speaking on behalf of the group, we have front man Gunnergrunt as well as group activists Urban Myth and l PATRICK l. See what these guys are up to, and show them your support.
Gunnergrunt here. To establish credentials, I will tell you that I have won Forge Hub's Conquest Forgeoff, won Xforgery's Conquest Forgery Challenge, have four Conquest maps of my own, wrote a guide to building Conquest maps, and have consistently helped members build their own Conquest maps for nearly nine months. With that in mind, I am the instigator of the movement known as "Conquest In Matchmaking."

But I am merely the guy who got the ball rolling and keeps everything organized as we go about our business. Some of our top supporters include SVV33T SAUC3, I PATRICK I, Predicide (Book of Conquest), Urban Myth, Given to Fly, Phoenix of Wei, and I Shadowsth I, along with many others.

We are anyone and everyone who would like to see the popular gametype, Conquest, make its way into Matchmaking.

Speaking in regards to the group on the whole

We are just some honest conquest fans trying to put the gametype into matchmaking.
Also speaking in regards to the group

We are an elite group of people who like to spend our time devoting special maps and many testing hours to the wonderful game of Conquest.
Well, I'm glad we figure out who you are but tell me, what is Conquest?

Conquest is a custom variant of Territories in which two teams fight for control of non-locking territories during three minute rounds. Conquest is played on linear (a single path from one side of the map to the other), player-made maps. The game utilizes the use of dual weapons, although some heavier firepower is also present. Here is a good quote from one of the creators of conquest

Urban Myth:

Conquest is best described as a "push of war" appose to "tug of war." It's a two team territories gametype that uses a symmetric and linear path with 5 to 7 territories. The players work as a team to capture as many territories as possible by attempting to push the opposing team back into their spawn.

l PATRICK l:

Conquest consists of specifically designed maps which display both terrific aesthetics, and a straightforward map design. Conquest Maps are designed to hold a symmetric one way path towards the other teams side. The maps are also set up for a certain gametype, which is like land grab, except the territories do not lock to that team.
Being a gametype, it has to be played on maps. Since it's played on maps and you guys are the experts, you must have some favorites. Which maps would those be?

Gunnergrunt:

Now that the map voting is over, I can say that some of my favorite Conquest maps are Artifacts, Chasm, Gold Rush, Of the Essence, Carceral, The Station, The Hollow, Socratic Method, and The Cellars (to name a few). I enjoy most of the Conquest maps out there, but those ones seem to come up most often when I host Conquest Customs. Its great that the community continues to forge their own Conquest maps. Given To Fly is nearly done with an excellent Conquest map that I have really enjoyed in testing so far. Keep 'em coming guys!

Urban Myth:

Gold Rush, The Station, The Cellars, Messiah, Of The Essence...

l PATRICK l:

I would have to say Gold Rush, The Hollow, Socratic Method, and Heli-pad.

I suppose the name gives a bit of insight, but what exactly is "Conquest in Matchmaking"?

Gunnergrunt:

Conquest is the gametype. Matchmaking is the goal. Myself, along with many supporters and fans of Conquest are working towards the goal of getting Conquest into Matchmaking through Bungie.
Although we are nearing the end of our endeavor, we have covered much ground since day one. We have created a 5th version of Conquest that combines the best elements of both version 3 and 4. The community has nominated and voted for their favorite Conquest maps so that we now have five ready for Matchmaking. The top five maps that will be presented to Bungie for consideration are:

The Hollow
Gold Rush
The Cellars
Carceral (previously named Messiah)
Socratic Method (Matchmaking version)

We have also kept an eye on the Optimatch Forums for quite some time and it is obvious that Territories could use something new. Team Throwback is getting quite desperate at just the right time. There has been much speculation as to where Conquest would end up if it were to enter Matchmaking. We originally had our sites set on Action Sack or Double Experience Weekend, but in the end, it is all up to Bungie which playlist Conquest goes under. But anywhere it goes in Matchmaking will be an excellent start.

Urban Myth

CIM is a group that is trying to put the game conquest into matchmaking, thanks to much support from the founder GunnerGrunt as well as the others showing support in the group.

l PATRICK l

Conquest in Matchmaking is a group devoted to promote the well-known gametype "Conquest" in matchmaking, along with its correct map variants.

Well that's fair and all, by why do you want to see Conquest pop up in Matchmaking?

Gunnergrunt:

Conquest has been a community favorite gametype for a very long time. Its played in nearly every TGIF. Whether an experienced Conquistador or playing it for the first time, Conquest is guaranteed fun. Its fast-paced action and intense game play have addicted many a gamer. So we want to share the experience with the worldwide population of Halo 3 gamers. Gaining a few exp. points here and there would just be an added bonus!

Urban Myth:

Conquest is one of the fairest gametypes out there and it's very competitive. I would definitely enjoy this more than the other community gametypes in matchmaking and I think the community would too.

l PATRICK l:

Conquest for me was like a new era of custom games. Although infection was fun, and as always frustrating, conquest was a joy to find. The maps are very fun to build, and i think show the most aesthetics of any maps. I would love to see others, find fun in a new gametype, like I have.

Well you guys are convincing, what can the community do to help you spread the word and achieve your goal?

Gunnergrunt:

There are varying degrees of support when it comes to Conquest in Matchmaking. Most support has been displayed here, in the forums. But where the support counts the most, is at Bungie. We have a Bungie.net group titled "Conquest in Matchmaking" where we organized our Conquest Customs game nights (to test new maps and such) and Bungie Forum activity. We will have several threads up in the Bungie Forums soon, and community support from Forge Hub is going to be rather important, because most of people there are new to Conquest. But more on that later. For now, spread the word, and keep an eye out for new CIM threads.

Urban Myth:

Be sure to join CIM if you enjoy the gametype and if you want to learn about the gametype itself, look for "Complete Gametype Description: Conquest"
l PATRICK l:

Keep spreading the word, in a good way ofcourse!

Well that about wraps this interview up, is there anything else you guys would like to throw out there?

Gunnergrunt:

Thank you for Spotlight and community support, Forge Hub! Any questions, feel free to send me a PM. And as always, everyone is welcome to contact me if help is needed while building a Conquest map. We need to keep them up to standards (especially if Conquest enters Matchmaking)!

Promotions

Just one lone colour change this time around, though one that's been long since overdue as Pigglez joins the rank of Loyal. We think you'll agree that it fits him rather well.

Congratulations Dewski!

Our 1v1 Conflict came to a close recently, and Dewski was crowned the best of the best, taking the finals to a full 5 games and netting some sweet gear in the process. Check out the Conflict Winners Announcement if you didn't see it before to get a breakdown of the 5 game finals, as well as an overview of the Losers Bracket Finals. Congratulations to all the final contenders, and thanks to all who participated or followed the 1v1 Conflict.

Hub of the Dead

Another event reached its conclusion recently, and congratulations go to Given To Fly for his creation, Schism of Light which swept away the competition in our Hub of the Dead infection forge-off and secured itself a well deserved Feature in the process. Mighty fine forging there, Given. There was quite a bit of buzz around this map right from when it emerged, but check out the map using the link above if you're not already familiar with it, and get a full rundown of the winning maps in the Hub of the Dead Announcement.

Bungie Talk

The eagle eyed amongst you will have recently noticed an addition to the Affiliates page on Bungie.net, namely, well ... us. This isn't a cursory link given out to every Tom, Dick and Harry in the Halo community, Forge Hub joins only 7 other sites on this list, and as Bungie themselves say "Membership is exclusive. Don't call us, we'll call you."

But, seeing as we're on the subject of Bungie, we're sure the majority of you have heard about, seen, or even pawed over the infamous leaked pictures of the supposed current Halo: Reach build. We're not gonna stop you discussing this obviously hot topic, and to say that we ourselves aren't gagging to know more about the next iteration of Halo would be foolish. But out of a certain degree of respect we'd like to make clear that circulating such leaked material or linking to it on Forge Hub is out of bounds, these things are rather under-the-counter by their very nature after all.

Tweaks and Touches

A few of you may have noticed, but the latest subtle addition to Forge Hub will have passed most people by. We recently added a new X version of the FH Old School theme which, as with the other X theme variants, is effectively exactly the same Old School theme, but extended to dynamically widen and match your screen. Think of it as a full width version of Old School. Scroll down to the very bottom of this, or any other page on the site and use the quick theme select menu to check it out. Another small change around the forums is the fact that sticky threads now only display on the first page of each forum index page, not a massive addition, but it just makes sense.

We need you

If you fancy yourself quite the graphic artist, as we know quite a few of you do, then this is something you may be interested in. We're aware that the top of our Site Updates are more than a little lacking in visual delights, and we're looking to remedy this by, well, getting the community to do the work for us. If you think you could whip up a banner which would sit well at the top of future Site Updates, watch out for the upcoming contest thread which should appear in the G&A Contests Board in the near future and get working on your submission. The winners will, of course, see their creation at the head of Site Updates from now on, also getting a mention in the next Update and a Custom Title to remember the whole affair. Get your pencils ready, or whatever it is you kids use nowadays.

We out

Hope you found something to your liking in the ramblings above, keep an eye on this general area for a similar collection of vaguely related themes in what may, or may not, be precisely two weeks. Catch y'all later.

Forged originally on Foundry then again on Sandbox, Conduction has been tweaked to play some of the most competitive and varied slayer games any custom map can offer. Also having made an appearance in Bungie vs The World, Conduction gives the Sandbox crypt the facade of size and opens up the field for games of varying size. For playing multiple variations of Slayer, Conduction is awarded Best Slayer.
Known as one of the best One Flag and One Bomb maps, Utah Mambo was one of the first and strongest examples of main level, vehicle based, objective play. High on the banks of the sandy base, players defended their objective with the help of both vehicles and powerful weapons. Utah Mambo has thus far inspired numerous others to follow suit, and bring Halo 3 back to it's roots, and due to this has been awarded Best Asymmetrical Objective.
Welcome avid readers to the Forge Hub community Spotlight. Here we highlight some of the shiny stars, as well as underlooked talents, using anything from inquisitive interviews, to map highlights and anything else that we feel has gone without enough notice. This week on the Community Spotlight we have Given to Fly, the recent winner of the Hub of the Dead contest and creator of Schism of Light. So check out what he has to say about the Hub and his successes.

Many of us found our way here very differently, how did you first happen upon Forge Hub?

I looked at Bungie favorites constantly to see which new pictures were up, and kept seeing maps from a mysterious place called Forge Hub. So, I decided to check it out and loved it ever since. Back when before Paragon was featured I believe...

After spending some time at Forge Hub, what became your favorite aspects of the site?

I really enjoy the variety of maps and creativity. I love how you guys are nice about everything, specially Peg. It's overall the best forge website out there, and it will continue to be.

Many have varying ideas about the Forge Hub community, what is your opinion?

It's amazing. I get good respectful comments on my maps and I'm really impressed on how large it became. They welcome new guys in with caring arms and warn them that they'd better follow the rules or Sarge will rape them.

Being a site dealing mainly with Halo 3's forge, how do you feel about the focus on maps here at Forge Hub?

I feel like it really focuses more on map playability than anywhere else. Forge Hub is mainly about making custom maps and having fun. It doesn't matter if the map looks like crap or isn't interlocked, it's about having a good time. So good.

After all the months it took to complete, what are your thoughts on the recently finished Conflict tournament?

Even though there were a lot of B-net kids joining just for the prizes, it was pretty sweet that it was able to happen. I was a little ticked off that my opponent basically lied about what happened and got the decision reversed, but oh well. :) I'm still happy I was able to participate. It's crazy that the contest lasted so long, and I was pullin for Shannon, but, no.

You were also recently the winner of a contest. How did you feel when you took first place in the Hub of the Dead?

Basically shocked! I saw the graphic at the top of the page and slowly scrolled down to see that my buddy, RC, got third. Dark Creek got second, and at this point I cracked a smile and scrolled down one more time to see my victory. I was crazy happy and hadn't stopped smiling all night. All that I could think of is that I could rub it in Zander's face lol but he was supportive and that would make me look like an ass. So, I kept the comments to myself and continued to smile. I still feel ridiculously happy about the decision and will for awhile. I love you Forge Hub.

One of the most unique maps in a while, where did the inspiration for Schism of Light come from?

I wanted to help RC with his map when it was in the early stages. Of course all I could say was needz moar cave! (keep in mind this was before The Hollow) then I saw a post of The Hollow and I literally messed myself. I thought I could try to extend what he did, and lost all hope when he got featured, so when I won I was amazed!

Though it is an excellent map, is there anything you wish you could have done differently?

Well it's hard to say exactly, but I think I would've made a tunnel from Flag spawn across the crypt wall to the Zombie Spawn. I didn't have enough money or budget, so I couldn't. Other then that, I loved how it turned out. Maybe better spawns?

The recently discovered forge tool known as Ghost merging has changed the way a lot of people think about forge. What effect has this had on you, and what are your thoughts about it.

I personally think that ghost merging should only be used for things that can't really be done by normal geomerging. I personally used about 80% ghost merging in SoL, but that's because it had to be done in a certain amount of time, and some geomerges were ridiculous. Other then that ghost merging should never be used as a interlocking method, it just seems too lazy, but it gets the job done. It is however a great breakthrough in forging and will be taking over as the main method. The future of forge is slowing down somewhat as the game gets older, but there will always be those who continue to impress and dominate the forums. I will continue to forge for quite some time.

Now that Schism of Light has become such a success, do you have any other projects in the works?

I am in the testing stages of my conquest map and I'm also really happy about how it looks. I also am in the middle of a Campaign inspiration map. The room you spawn in on Crow's Nest is the main area of the map and is a pretty realistic replica. I hope to make it work really well for 1 Flag and other gametypes. Hopefully one of these maps is good enough to attain me the premium position..? We'll have to see.

When you aren't building maps and winning contests, what do you like to do outside the video game world?

Well I just got a new snowboard for this season. Burton Clash "160" and I can't wait to hit the rails, hills, and boxes. I ride a bigger board so I hope I can pull off everything as last year. I learned on a "162" and got pretty good in only 1 full season, so hopefully I'm still that good. Otherwise I'm hangin with my friends Brecklin, Timmy, or Kisor.

Is there anything you'd like to add before we wrap up?

Other than how amazing this community is and how happy I am about winning? not really.

Results

It seems a long time since the 512 eager Conflict entrants suited up and began the first round of a journey that culminated in our epic final showdowns last week. It's been over 2 months, and during that time many have fallen by the wayside as the contest sorted the finest slayers from those who took up arms way back in August. Intent on cementing the final round as the height of competitive Halo, the chosen few who remained had to fight it out for 5 games, as opposed to the 3 employed in recent rounds. Many have been waiting eagerly for the results, and for those who haven't been keeping up with the match threads themselves, here's a breakdown of what went on in the culmination of Forge Hub's 1v1 Conflict.

Winners Bracket Finals

The two warriors who remained undefeated going in to the final round; the only two with a shot at the coveted first place, were Shanon and Dewski. Both came in to the Finals confident after impressive performances in the tournament so far, and the interest surrounding this match up was evident as soon as the match thread itself was posted. Ten pages later and we finally have our answer. Below you can find links to all 5 games on Bungie.net so you can see for yourself how the final shots fired in the 1v1 Conflict went down.

Game 1:
Dewski: 13

Game 5:
Shanon: 13
Dewski: 15

Though Shanon managed to outdo Dewski in terms of overall slaying, it's wins that count here, and Dewski killed when it counted to clinch victory in what looks to have been an epic showdown, truly befitting of a final round. Now that all is said and done, here's what the final placings for the Winners Bracket look like:
Losers Bracket Finals

There may not be the glamour of the Winners Bracket Finals at play here, but the first place spot in the Losers Bracket was still a hotly contested prize. Especially in the literal sense, since a first place finish in the Losers Bracket includes prizes which follow suit of those from the Winners Bracket above. The two embattled fighters who made it this far were Viper Pro and Hertz382, both of whom were intent on claiming the LB Champion crown. As before, you can see how each of the games in the final round panned out in detail with the links below:

Game 1:
Viper Pro: 15
Hertz382: 14

Whilst this match may not have gone to 5 games, it was a closely fought battle by all accounts, with the final game coming down to the wire at the end, a draw looking like a strong possibility in the closing seconds. Here's how the Losers Bracket final placings look at the close of the tournament:

1st Place: Viper Pro, who takes home:
3rd Place: Chipsinabox
Massive thanks to all of you for helping make this 1v1 Conflict that much more special, and we're sure our prize winning entrants will agree with us.

Big thanks also go out to all those who worked on the maps and Conflict gametype used in the tournament. To make a tournament that was not only competitive, but rooted firmly in the fertile soils of Forge Hub, we had to ensure the core quality of the battlegrounds to be used at every stage. The tireless work of those who built and tested the maps ensured that participants were given the most polished environments possible in which to do battle, we couldn't have done it without you, guys.

But lastly, our thanks go out to you, the members of Forge Hub, for your participation, support and general interest in the 1v1 Conflict. It is the participants and supporters who really make a competition what it is, and this tournament has brought some of the tightest, most gripping and hardest fought competition ever seen on Forge Hub. This is all down to you guys, and we want to give our most sincere thanks to all who took part, or even just took an interest in the 1v1 Conflict.

One dark night, the staff banded together, using guns that fire shot and their own wit, to rebuff a seemingly endless wave of infected... maps. After hours of enduring humanity's destruction, Forge Hub presents the final survivors of its Hub of the Dead Contest, just in time for your late night Halo-ween festivities.
Prepare for some intimate encounters with the undead on RC's Friedhof, with its high walls and oppressive mood. Featuring a simple two level design, humans are eventually driven to the second floor in their final attempts to repel the oncoming infected. This map's relatively limited capacity only adds to its excitement, creating frantic moments of survival, even with smaller parties.
Have you ever dreamt about fighting in Normandy, against zombies? Well wonder no more, Dark Creek is here to quell your fantasies. The idea is simple; the infected scale a slope slick with blood, making good use of the cover it provides, in an attempt to silence the humans camping on top. This interesting take on the problematic infection cliche results in a truly unique and memorable zombie experience.
by Given to Fly

Awakening the inner explorer within all of us, Schism of Light shuffles into first place. Don't let the label of "another cave map" throw you off, because it is anything but. It takes the cave concept and perfects it, resulting in a successfully unique atmosphere for infection. Combating the undead has never been so beautiful. However, its exceptional aesthetics are equally met by its gameplay. Numerous tunnels and interconnecting shafts force players to remain quick on their feet, making camping a rare and arduous task. Yet, despite these winding channels, you'll find yourself familiar with this map's layout within a game.
To another two weeks!

TGIF #44 will run on Friday the 30th of October and party leaders will start their parties at the appropriate time (check individual schedules for more information). If a party is un-joinable, that means it is full, therefore you do NOT need to send invites or messages to the leader asking to get in. It will not work! We all hope you have a great TGIF - play nice and have fun.

Please note that all TGIF Gamertags have been cleared out - if you've been on them in the past you will have to resend a Friend Request!

Sign up by posting your Gamertag in this thread.

Send a friend request to any ONE of the following TGIF gamertags over Xbox live: FH TGIF 1, TGIF IV or TGIF V.

Each host's motto/bio will say what type of maps they're playing, and how many players are admitted.

You gain access to each host via 'Friends of Friends' of the TGIF gamertag you sign up with.

Join an available party according to the playstyle you prefer.

Get tired of a party and want a change of pace? Leave and join another! All parties will be set to Open, so change parties as you please.

Want to play Rocket Race for a few hours? Go ahead! Then when you get bored of it jump ship and join another party for a different style of play!

If you need help with time zones, please check out this thread.

Host's Gamertag: Insane54
Start Time: 4:00 PM EST
End Time: 7:00 PM EST
Rules:

We play between serious and messing around. Feel free to shout and whatever, but not incessantly.

Have a mic and be willing to talk. We'll all get to know each other over the 3 hours, and maybe make new friends.

No guests. All the room should be for TGIF participants. You're welcome to "hotseat" or switch people on the controller, as long as we're talking to someone.

Bad connection will be booted. It's not your fault, but it ruins the fun for everyone. If you fix your connection, I'll do my best to get you back in. The same goes for leaving the game for anything over a couple minutes.

Obviously, try to show up on time. I feel much of TGIF is meeting each other and becoming acquainted, so I've tried to design my playlist so that new friends will be made. Coming in late interrupts that, so try to be on time if you can.

Feel free to send me a polite message (please don't make it voice or a friend request, my gamertag is Insane54), at any time once the signups go up, and you'll be the first guys to be invited in.

 Schedule:
I play a minigame/casual playlist with the occasional fun competitive map thrown in. We'll start with some minigames like Tremors and Cat N Mouse to become acquainted with each other, and then move on to some more team games. At the end, we'll play some higher level games like Clue and Tremor Blast, but overall I like a mixture of fairly new and classic games. Hope to see you there!

For our 42nd instalment of TGIF we decided to celebrate the launch of Halo 3: ODST with a night dedicated to Firefight. Teams of four Forge Hub members gathered together to try and lay down the highest score and nab themselves a set of custom titles. The winning party consisted of RedNeck, MasterTMarksman, dargie1 and Cobalt37, with their score of 1,610,052 on Lost Platoon, Heroic difficulty. Gratz guys.
Template Contest Winners

As you may have seen, the winners of the Template Contest were released at long last. First place was snagged by nuvnuv123 with his entry, The Outback. Look out for the upcoming video of The Outback edited by Bl00D F1R3, the reward for nuvnuv123's efforts in ousting the competition.

Hub of the Dead

The deadline for submissions in our Hub of the Dead infection map building contest has just passed, and we know many have a sour taste in their mouths after how long the Template Contest winners took to appear. But fret not, we're putting on our judging hats right from the word go with this one, and have got a compliment of critics ready to inspect your infection masterpieces. Keep your eyes peeled for the results to appear on an encroaching, rather poetically suitable holiday, we promise.

MLG H3FF Map Pack 2 Launch

The second iteration of the MLG H3FF Map Pack has launched. In case you missed out on the first one, check it out here. They're mixing it up this time around and have organized what will hopefully end up being something pretty special. So if you fancy you some MLG and think your forging is up to snuff, time to put your mapz where your mouth is. Hit the jump above and let's see some magic.

HaloHub

Some of you may remember the FH: RPG run by FBU, which sadly seems to have come to a halt in recent times. But Killor118 has stepped up to the mark and crafted his own online RPG in the spirit of Forge Hub. Have a look at his HaloHub thread to find out more, download the game and get started creating your own character. The whole process is laid out step by step and is very user friendly, so be sure to check it out! See you in game!

Catch ya on the Flip Side, Hubbers

We're signing off for now, kind folks. Be sure to check back in a fortnight for some more forgin update goodness. In the meantime, keep forging, and please stay safe over Halloween!

Contest Template Contest Winner!

Image: http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk297/NBbordes/tcbanner.png

*RESULTS*

Its been a while, we know. It seemed like the template...

RESULTS

Its been a while, we know. It seemed like the template contest was forever sucked up by a colossus black hole of never-returning stuff. Well, here's some good news: we team shotted it down, and in its last minutes, it slowly exhaled, and the winner of the template contest was modestly announced by its fading lips. Oh, the drama!

Anyway, congratulations to nuvnuv123! You did it! Nuvnuv123, who created and entered The Outback, showed true mental dexterity when creating this unique map, represented by the awe-inspiring structures and the adrenaline inducing gameplay. Sticking true to the template, nuvnuv123 carefully built around it, keeping what makes a good map closely in mind. He executed it outstandingly. Each base has an aura of ingenuity and freshness, and the central structure is just as beautiful as it is intimidating. The gameplay flows dynamically through the obstructions: a never-ending chain of action is sure to be at your doorsteps when putting this map in queue.

As we all know, a banshee is rather difficult to implement in any map, and only those who kept all factors in mind pulled it off. Plenty of excellent maps were tested by the staff, but sadly, we did have to narrow it down to one, the victorious being none other than The Outback. That being said, thanks to all who participated; just because your map didn't win doesn't mean its a bad map. The final decision took us quite a bit, I can assure you. Until next contest ladies and gentlemen! Have a good night's sleep and brainstorm for the next one!
