The date was October 17. I didn’t have much time left. I felt as though life was meaningless. Life was cruel and listless. Life was full of unfulfilled dreams that could be expressed in an epitome entitled “disappointment”. I was overcome by lassitude yet decided to take a walk through town. I felt a sort of occult force was driving me to walk. I had no desire to move at all. I just simply moved. I had no place to go. No place to be. No future ahead. What was the point of me walking? Then I realized there was none. It was just like everything else now. Pointless.
As I walked along I noticed a single bee on a vibrant yellow sunflower. As I stood in the park, I surmised that he would go and do what bees do. Take the pollen back to the hive; make honey and go back to repeat the process. He will do this like so many of his predecessors did for millennia before. A cycle of monotony all done so that he will be able to ingratiate himself with the rest of the hive. Pointless. It is all pointless.
I continued to walk along the path until I came upon some children playing on a field. They all looked so young, so callow, and so oblivious to the trials and turmoil life causes. The children were playing baseball on the sandlot field. The boys continued a cycle of getting up to bat, hitting the ball and running. I knew this is how the game was played, I remember playing it when I was a child, yet I saw the game differently now. They ran in a circle. They ran all that way just to end up back where he was. It was like life. We work hard, suffer and for what? Nothing. We all die and go back to nothing. Nothing to nothing. Dust to Dust. Pointless
I went further on down the path and saw a man running. He seemed to be working hard. Sweat was permeating through his shirt and precipitating from his brow; darkening his blue shirt from sky blue to the darkest shade of navy. I watched as he came to a stop, wiped the drivel from his nose on this cold day. He then put his handkerchief away and ran off into the distance. I continued to watch until he disappeared over the horizon. I began to wonder, why was he running? Was there something worth running for or running to? No. He would continue on his road until he comes back home. Nothing has changed-except for the fact that the man is now more tired and a few hours have gone by. Nothing worth running for. Nothing. Pointless.
I went home and made the preparations. I wrote the note that would explain my reasons and apologize to those I felt needed to be apologized to. I went into the kitchen and tied the rope to the support beam over the doorway. I stood up on the chair first. Then the small table , set at the perfect height. Then rocked once…twice…then it was done. No more pain. No more breath. No more disappointment. Just peace. No more meaningless emotions, except for the pain felt by those I’m leaving behind. That my friend… is truly pointless.

Epilogue
Pointless is a story about a man depressed by his failures in life. He walks around in a park on his last day of life and comments about the various things one would commonly see in a park. He only talks about how the sights remind him of his failures in life and is depressed by them even more. What he doesn’t realize is that you have to learn to look at the good things in life and accept the bad things that come your way.
