Mettle

Abandoned training arena where warriors once tested their resolve. 2-8 players: FFA, TS, CTF, Assault, and Oddball

This is my first map post here in a long time and I wanted to create a simple yet fun map and I think I have accomplished that with Mettle. It is a symmetrical arena style map built in the skybubble on Sandbox. It has 2 base type structures on 2 sides with multiple levels and paths to the other side. There is a large platform in the middle connecting the entire map.

I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

Overview from the side of the map

Overview from the top

Open side view looking towards red base. Regenerator is located on this side and Bubble shield on blue base side. You can also see one of the ways to get to the 2nd level via the tube with a grav lift. Due to the positioning of the grav lift you can also drop down from this way too.

View of middle and "long" side to red base. Sniper is located on the upper walkway toward the tube. The tube on the right is a drop down only and hides the Overshield. Active camo is on the opposite side.

View from top of blue base. You can see the spawn for the bubble shield behind cover. Can also see the rockets and sword spawn up top.

View from red base window looking towards blue base window

Battle Rifle x6
Carbine x2
Assault Rifle x2
Plasma Rifle x2
Brute Shot x2
SMG x2
Spiker x2
Needler x2
Sniper Rifle x2
Mauler x2
Rockets x1
Sword x1
Spike Grenade x4
Plasma Grenade x12
Frag Grenade x8
Overshield x1
Active Camo x1

I wanted to do a little bit more on the open sides but sadly I hit the object limit. If anyone has any tips or suggestions for weapon spawns or placement please let me know.

I would love to get some more games on this map and others since most of my friends only like to do MM games. If anyone is interested in some games send me a friend request or just message me. GT is Runtime83

C'mon, I know someone has an opinion on this one. I spent over 30 hours planning and making this so some feedback would be appreciated.

Not gonna blame you for bumping this.

This looks really good, but most of the map seems just that bit too open. The centre structure would probably do better as a room rather than just a four legged arch. This would break up the line of sight of each base more.

Also, you might want to put something along the edges of each stone platform runway so people don't fall off so easily.

But overall well done on interlocking where necessary and putting this much effort into the map.

A good sig is on the way! *Opens MS paint*

Flood

I'd probably bump my map too if I had spent that much time and it just shot straight into obscurity. With the flood of new users and anxious sandbox creators there has been a flood of map posts causing some good ones to slip through the cracks.

Your map looks really nice. It has some loose similarities to Foundation. You have many appealing areas, especially the center. I like how you have to climb out into the open to get the sword. I'll download and let you know how it plays. Try adding some good action shots. It will add excitement to your post. If you had them it probably wouldn't have sunk to the bottom. It gives people something interesting to comment on.

Nice work.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I do agree that it is a little too easy to fall off in some areas (more than I intended). I am currently working on a v2 to help fix that and also tweak the weapon layout a little. If anyone is interested in helping test it I could use the help and input.

I would love to do some games on here and looks like it has potential to be a great map. It has an "alien" feel to it. If you need to test out the V2, let me know.

Thanks, Soul. I'm assuming you're referring to the center structure mostly when you talk about the "alien" feel? I like that part, helps tie the whole map together I think. I'm getting the final touches on the v2 done soon, so I'll let ya know.
I just wish I hadn't used the budget glitched map to start with. I've learned that if you use a canvas that has the default objects moved you can use SO many more objects. I would only recommend using a budget glitched canvas if you plan on going with lots of effects(lights and stuff) and/or vehicles.

Mettle(Skybubble arena)
Scorpio(Gemini Remake)
