Gridlocked

Introduction

Well I'm back with a brand new spankin' version of a FH favorite: Gridlock. To help alleviate some confusion with GoW map "Gridlock", I have slightly renamed my map "Gridlocked". After playing the old Gridlock extensively over the past 4 months, I realized there were a few changes that could be made to make the map play even better. The map now works better with gametypes other than CtF, and I suggest trying Territories or Neutral Assault. The old version suffered from poor spawns and the new version should greatly improve in that aspect. The map has now been completely geo-merged, and has been given a considerable face-lift among many other changes. Here is a link to the old map to see just how much this map has changed....for the better.

Map Description
Gridlocked is a unique map built from a simple concept. Vertical boxes are stacked all throughout the map creating a grid-like system of pathways. Certain sections of the map are blocked off and force players to move in a "U" like direction to get from base to base. In the far corners of the map there are elevated platforms. Each elevated platform has a view of the other platform and a portion of the base located nearby. These platforms become critical to control during any match. There are basically 2 routes from base to base. The shortest route is the most dangerous and most frequently used, while the longer route is safer from enemy fire, but more easily controlled. Overall the map was built to flow well and move players throughout the entire map.

Weapon Layout
Sniper Rifles are located at the far corners of each map on elevated platforms. These rifles really help control the outer part of the map, but are still limited by the sharp corners the map provides. In the center of the map there is a long narrow hallway that can only be accessed from one direction. At the end of that hallway is a Spartan Laser and a bubble shield to protect a player from fire. At the back of the map, there is a single hammer located on the ground. The hammer may be useless when attacking down a long narrow hallway, but it is incredibly good at killing enemies around a corner. Each base holds a Gauss Warthog and a gun turret. Both are generally used for defensive purposes, but the Gauss can be used for a quick attack on an unsuspecting team. Other weapons and equipment can be found throughout the map, and are balanced accordingly.

Gametypes Supported
Slayer/ Team Slayer
Capture the Flag (Highly Recommended)
Assault/ Neutral Bomb
Territories
King of the Hill
Oddball

The following pictures were taken during a territories match

Territories is a great gametype on Gridlocked, much improved from the old version.

The Spartan Laser is at the end of the alley by the flag territory

This looked too painful for me not to show to everyone....

He gets hit....hard

The Gauss Hog can now be dominant in the back section of the map

Our TGIF party asked to play this twice. The original has been on my hardrive since creation and now this will as well. Now get working on something new.

I'm against the merging, it makes things over complicated, and eliminates one of the best parts of this map, simplicity. Otherwise it's still as good as ever, were the flag spawns moved at all?

When you recommended the map to me, I downloaded it and checked it out. I was walking around and I was like, "did he geo-merge each one of these boxes?!? He DID!!! WTF!" Very impressive.

The first one was a masterpiece. And now it's even better! When can we play?

The geo-merging actually does the opposite. It prevents grenades from slipping beneath boxes, and helps make the map even more simplistic than before. The flag spawns were not moved, the images shown were during a territories match (thus the odd flag placement), which is very fun now in my opinion.

I'm up for playing tomorrow (today?) if at all possible. The geo-merging was actually suggested by Matty when I was asking people for improvement suggestions. When I started revamping this map I HATED geo-merging....I wasn't looking forward to merging 30+ boxes into the ground. Luckily I got better at it and now I actually find it easy. It just goes to show you that practice makes perfect.

TXGhost is organizing a campaign session at 5pm eastern. I was gonna try to get online for that and then hijack the party to test my newest map. I'd love to play this too. If we're both online, let's set it up.

I too, loaded this up in TGIF and it was a hit, naturally. The improvements are awesome, no more cheap flag caps! (sorry Devinish)

Ah, theres nothin like a good remake to an old favorite

Anyway count me in for campaign/progression/gridlocked tomorrow.
