Maps Forum Overview

This forum is designed for sharing forge maps with the rest of the community. Feel free to post any of your forge creations to share with us.

There are sections for 6 different map categories: Competitive Maps, MLG Maps, Casual Maps, Race Maps, Mini Game Maps and Aesthetic Maps.
Please post your map in the appropriate category so that it is easy to locate for other visitors to the site.

If you do post a map, make the name of the thread the same as the name of the map. This keeps the forums easy to read and scan quickly. Topics with long titles, titles with unnecessary symbols, or titles using all caps will be edited or locked to keep things fair for the other members.

In your map thread, be sure to include the following:
  • Map/Gametype Description
  • Link to Map/Gametype
  • Screenshots
  • Additional information
If the staff at Forge Hub like your map enough we will feature it on our front page and archive it, with your permission.

Posting Suggestions

Posting a map is something that you should take pride in. You want it to look very neat and professional to get the most downloads, comments and feedback. If you just go out there and post a short text description with a download link you most likely won't get any downloads from many of us at Forge Hub.

A proper map post does not require many things, but the things that it does require are very important in getting the quality passed on to the reader.

Here is a short list of important things:
  • Have a detailed description
  • Have embedded screenshots
  • Have a link to your map, not your fileshare
When taking your screenshots try your best to get a good view of the map. You have to remember that you are trying to show off your map to people who have never seen it before. You want to make sure that by looking at the screenshots you can convince people to download your map. Screenshots that do not show the map are useless and might as well not be added to your post.

Below is a suggested layout that you can use when posting your map. Feel free to add and/or subtract what is needed and/or not needed. The words in caps are what you should change.

Code:
[size=2][u][b]Map Title:[/b][/u][/size] TITLE HERE
[i]SLOGAN/SHORT DESCRIPTION[/i]

[url="http://DIRECT%20LINK%20TO%20MAP%20HERE"][size=2][u][b]Download Map[/b][/u][/size][/url]
[url="http://DIRECT%20LINK%20TO%20GAMETYPE%20HERE"][size=2][u][b]Download Gametype[/b][/u][/size][/url]

[size=2][u][b]Description:[/b][/u][/size]
INSERT FULL/DETAILED DESCRIPTION HERE. INCLUDE EMBEDDED IMAGES USING THE [img]IMAGE URL HERE[/img] TAGS.

Here are some common BB codes that can be used in your post to make it more professional and personalized. If you don't feel comfortable using these codes, just use the toolbar at the top of the text window when you are typing your map description. Just highlight the text and click on the button you want. Your browser will format the code for you.

Embedding Images:
Code:
[img]IMAGE URL HERE[/img]
Centering Text/Embedded images:
Code:
[center]TEXT/IMG TAGS WITH LINK INSIDE HERE[/center]
Adding Color (You can change "Red" to any color):
Code:
[color=red]TEXT HERE[/color]
Changing Text Size (Change "3" to the desired value. 2 is default):
Code:
[size=3]TEXT HERE[/size]

Bold/Underline/Italics:

Code:
Bold:[b]TEXT HERE[/b]
Underline:[u]TEXT HERE[/u]
Italics:[i]TEXT HERE[/i]
Using these suggestions and techniques will make sure that your map gets the attention that it deserves. Remember, the quality of the forum post is usually a good indicator of the quality of the map.

Thread Tagging System

Ever since the switch to the new forums, one feature has been consistently underused: The tag system. This is a useful feature that allows people to search for specific keywords that have been defined in the post. If this was more widespread, people could search for the phrase 'King of the Hill' and the tag search would return all threads with that tag, hopefully meaning all of those maps are set up for king of the hill. This could help with organization into types of maps, gametypes, what map it was built on, and other details. It occurs to me that people just don't know how to use it or what to put in the tag box. So this thread is to help us all use the tag system more often, resulting in less confusion over its nature.

How to Add Tags to Threads

After creating your well thought out map post including a hefty description and several insightful images, you have the option to add up to 25 tags to your map to make it easier to find. The tag box can be found here:

Helpfully, if you type in something that has been used before, you don't need to complete the word, but just click on it in the drop down menu which appears. Multiple tags are separated with a comma, so for example if one were to want to tag a thread as being on Avalanche, being set up for free for all, oddball, and team slayer, he would then type in the following:
avalanche, FFA, oddball, team slayer
and the tag system would categorize the map under those three tags.

How to use the Tag Search

The tag search is quite easy to find, assuming you know where the search button is.

Clicking on the search button brings down the search menu will give you a drop down menu from which you can click on the Tag search button. This will bring you to a page with the 70 most popular tags all sized relative to popularity and a text box at the bottom to search for tags. As with entering tags, the box will sometimes complete the phrase you wish to search for you.

Commonly Used Tags

Use as many of these as reasonably fit the map. This helps make your map available in more searches, helping the person searching for your type of map. You may use others not on this list. If you feel I missed something that should be put on the common tags list, feel free to send me a PM about it.
