Nooks & Crannies 2

Yep, you read the title right. This is the epic sequel to the much-loved original Nooks&Crannies, which had the Casual Maps section squealing with delight for months. Check it out if you haven't already!

Now Nooks & Crannies 2 isn't exactly your run-of-the-mill "junk map," rather, it's been given weapons, spawn points, respawn areas, objective items, and is 100% compatible with every gametype. The Nooks & Crannies series of maps are junk maps done right. This map is a great one to download!

Nooks & Crannies 2 has been extensively tested, and is an EXCELLENT choice for Infection games with large parties. There's nothing like watching your radar swarm over with red dots as you crouch in a corner wondering what's headed your way. Most custom Infection variants should work great with this map, just... no Fat Kid. Seriously. That's one of the dumbest and most useless things ever created. Almost as useless as the Halo 3 Pistol.

Well, enough nonsensical blabber about how awesome this map is. Time for pictures! So you can SEE how awesome it is.

Map Geometry and Structure

Attack Base is essentially one of the default Foundry bases + some awesomely structured clutter. On the crane here is a Beam Rifle. A Carbine, a Mauler, and a Power Drain reside nearby. In addition to those, a Mongoose spawns on this side during Asymmetric gameplay (this is the Attackers' base).

In the default Foundry tunnel behind this base is a teleporter to the opposite side (Blue Side) which we'll discuss later. There's a BR in this back tunnel.

Blue Side is the other Foundry base, so named because of the Blue Box that resides there. A human Sniper rests inside the Blue Box, and you can find a Plasma Pistol, BR, and Bubble Shield nearby. Zombies start here in Infection. They were Infected by the Blue Box's radiation, durrr!

The teleporter link to the back of Attack base resides here as well.

In addition, a pile of Pistols lie close to Blue Side. Don't worry though, they suck and won't throw off the balance at all. In fact you're probably an idiot if you ever use them even think of using them. The funniest thing is that they're supposedly "dangerous." Oh no! Spare me! Pistols!

The ParaBox is located in the windowed corner of Foundry (it's cleverly named, I know). In this corner of the map are various things, including a Shotgun, a BR, a Rocket Launcher, a Regenerator, and Active Camo.

There are also a pair of things hidden in the garbage... for good reason.

The Regenerator is placed atop the ParaBox, and can be used in an interesting way. Throwing the Regenerator down onto the ParaBox will activate the Mancannon in the box, launching players upward into a complicated launcher system that will catapult them across the map toward the Defense base.

Defense Base comprises the last corner of Foundry, and is where Defensive Objectives spawn. The Mongoose located here spawns during all gametypes, and is a humiliatingly awesome item to kill someone with. Nearby are dual Spikers, a Portable Grav Lift, two Plasma Grenades, a BR, and an Overshield.

Defense Base also has access to the middle of its half of Foundry.

It also has access to the neutral Gravity Hammer between Defense Base and Para-Box Corner.

Alas, the map wouldn't be the same without its varied neutral locations. A plethora of items, pathways, and rooms await your exploration. Download this map!

The absolute Center of the map houses many objects, chiefly the Spartan Laser inside the open box at the top.

Underneath the large structure is a Sword, placed at the intersection of four open double boxes. This area is most easily accessed from Attack Base and Blue Side.

The neutral area between Defense Base and the Para-Box contains grenades, SMGs, Rocket Launcher access, and its signature "Mancannon to Nowhere."

Action Shots

Hiding from the Laser is usually a good idea if you only have a Sword.

Dual Spikers > you in the long alley near Defense Base.

The Needler proves how awesome it's become in Halo 3.

Weapon/Equipment Load

  • 1 Rocket Launcher
  • 1 Spartan Laser
  • 1 Sniper Rifle
  • 1 Beam Rifle
  • 2 Shotguns
  • 2 Maulers
  • 1 Plasma Pistol
  • 1 Gravity Hammer
  • 2 Needlers
  • 2 Brute Shots
  • 1 Sentinel Beam
  • 5 BRs
  • 2 Carbines
  • 2 ARs
  • 2 SMGs
  • 2 Spikers
  • 2 Plasma Rifles
  • 12 Magnums Pieces of Crap
  • 1 Plasma Turret
  • 1 Machine Gun Turret
  • 4 Frag Grenades
  • 8 Plasma Grenades
  • 1 Bubble Shield
  • 1 Power Drain
  • 1 Trip Mine
  • 1 Portable Grav Lift
  • 1 Regenerator
  • 1 Active Camo
  • 1 Overshield
It may look like a lot of weapons are placed on this map. Nooks&Crannies2 is a casual map, and the wide weapon selection lends immensely to its random pick-up-and-play style of gameplay. You'll enjoy it!

wow dude this seems like a really funny map idea, i don't think i've ever played nooks and crannies before but it seems cool. definitely since scenery is more in a random pattern and assymetrical pattern rather than it being equal and symetrical everywhere, it's different and i think both are fine but i also think it has more of a variety of gameplay this way. sounds pretty cool :D, oh and if/when i play on this of course i'll probably dualie it up with the pistols :DDDDD XD

this map looks pretty interesting. i like the style of gameplay but, it does look like a 3 year old could do it too, but i suppose we'll see when i play it. look from pics: 3.5/5

well, now that ive played it, i was wrong! lol

the placement of objects is actually well thought out, well, as far as i know its well thought out :P

when playing with my friend, we found it hard to contact eachother, just that the map has so many....nooks and crannies...pun not intended :P

gameplay: 5/5!

p.s. we tried infection with a semi-fast, high jumping, invincible zombie...wow, really really fun!

When life gives you lemons.......

GIVE IT AIDS!

Looks really awesome, yet funny. It seems that you just put a pile of crap anywhere you wanted to but obviously you have planned this very well. And for that, I congratulate you. *Clap* *Clap* *Clap*.

Can't wait to get on Halo 3 and play this map so I can see how awesome this crazy fun map is. Great job.

BTW, how did you make the box blue? It's not edited right? Send me a Visitor Msg.

Alright I have looked, you know, so I don't get rocks in mah teeth. o.O

Wow this looks pretty awesome Debo. I never really played the original, both cause I don't play Halo too much, and because I are too lazy to check every map out lol.

But this looks sick. For a junk map. What obviously really catches attention is that blue box. I'm guessing thats like, a bunch of shield doors merged into the box so that it looks blue. But idk. Explain por favor! XD

And I also really like the guns in the garbage. Clever... very clever.

For a junk map, it's pretty well orchestrated. XD

Anyway, I can't play as my XBox was taken. Same reason I yet to have played Mastar's map.

But when I get it back on Sunday, I'll try to remember to DL and play. Nice job Debo XD

this looks like most every map that has just piles of stuff, but with just what u said, spawns and guns. i dont find this too extraordinary and doesn't blow my mind. i guess it would be cool for infection but i could probably download the other 200 maps that are like this littered around in the casual gametype section

Super Ranks!

if you want one, look at my blog.

cool pic dawg. check it

Help me with this

Alas my good friend, you have taken all other junk maps of the world and shat on their faces with this beautiful pile of nonsense.

I can garuntee that the fist thought everyone will have upon glancing at the pictures is low maneuverability. Allow me to show emphasis when I say IT IS NOT DIFFICULT TO MOVE AROUND ONE BIT. Quite possibly the most unique and breathtaking feature of Nooks&Crannies 2 is its flow. The paths created by the seemingly random immovable objects are irregular, yet one is never presented with a "dead end" or a place to become stuck. Even the mongoosen (plural for mongoose, you know I'm right) have the ability to maneuver inbetween both bases.

The satire on the danger of the pistol piece of crap is genius. And no, having 10 in one place does not disrupt gameplay. This is especially true with a very well-placed sniper rifle in the misterious box of blue.

Your ability to balance objects, in addition, astounds me. The sword is simply standing on end. Most people these days are incapable of standing a wall as straight as that sword.

And finally, the Blue Box (capitalized for great justice). All I can say is that it scares me. That is all.

Nooks & Crannies 2, in all seriousness, is quite possibly the most entertaing infection map I've played. It provides the best mix of running and hiding an infection map can offer. It is set apart from every infection map, however, in the compelling competitive gameplay it manages to dish out.

All in all, 5/5 and a definite download.

And in rebuttal, you simply have to play a game of any type to see how much time and effort went in to making this one "pile of stuff" map shine unlike the other 200.

Wow felipe, i always thought it was "mongooses" sometimes even "mongeeses!" Lol. My first impression was like, "WTF!!!" just like filipe's sig. I thought, someone has finally done it. Someone finally thrown a whole lot of random crap in and called it a map. But i really can't see myself playing on it. There's to much, stuff piled up, i wouldn't be able to think straight, lol!

Thanks for all of the positive feedback guys! If only the thread rating would reflect it... haha. Anyway, I'd like everyone to know that the objective points and spawn points have been competitively placed. Every spawn is set with a Focal Point, neutral objectives are equally distanced from team spawns, and team-specific Objectives are defensible but not unattainable. This map is as fair and balanced as it gets when it comes to junk maps!
