BoF Voting

Posted 08-28-2008 at 02:44 AM by Nemihara
I was gonna use this for an article I was writing, but I feel that it's not appropriate for the main feel, so I dropped it from it. Feel free to use this as a source of information, but remember that this wasn't inteded to bash Halo Tracks. It's a great site, and I encourage you to check them out and maybe even register.

Basically, remember the whole controversy with HT making duplicate accounts in order to make their map, Wall Rider, win in the Best of Forge: Racetracks division? I decided to get into the bottom of things and find out how it would have been decided if some of the members of HT weren't so anxious to win it and cheat.
Any member who stopped being active soon (stopped posting before 8-20) after voting is considered a cheating vote
Date of Shock's Nomination thread post: 7-10-08
Date of Matty's Voting thread post: 7-20-08
(Basically, if their join date is between 7-10 and 7-24 AND have no posts or posts only in the BoF thread, then they are phantom voters.)
List of users with their join dates:

Wall Rider:

Total: 41/123

Of course, I didn't think it was fair if I did that only for Wall Rider's votes, so I also checked out the other two maps. Same rules apply.
Brute Burnout:

Total: 8/118
Qr-sss X2:

Total: 2/29

(If you subtract all of these cheating votes, it ends up with Wall Rider having only 82 votes, Brute Burnout with 110 votes, and Qr-sss X2 with a pitiable 27 votes.)

Haha, you rule Nemi. I wanted to do something like this, but I didn't have the time.

I think the whole situation was handled unfairly. We had proof that HT was cheating and bribing people to vote, but instead of disqualifying the votes, we decide to let them win anyway; as well as promote their site's leader on these forums to Respected rank. Wtf??

But whatever, it's in the past. Everyone knows who the real winner was.

Qr-sss indeed...I would have voted for that, had there not been the whole debacle...But that is the other factor, if there would not have been such a whorish "zomg, this map > that map" "fh > ht" bullshit going on, then it could have been a bit more fair...

Regardless, I think it was situated the best way possible "Best Linear" "Best Non-Linear"...

I voted for QR-SSS, though I knew that people would vote for the map they least like's chief competition.
Just like in nation wide elections!

I wasn't here for this, so this is an actual question, was this vote held here or at Halo Tracks? I mean, I'm guessing its here, but.
If it was based here, couldn't some votes have just been HT members who joined just to vote, but then went back to HT where they unusually frequent...? Or... not...?

Anyway, Forge Hub should introduce a system which requires members to have at least 50 posts before they Vote.

That's my point. They joined just to vote, and that's it. They weren't active at all outside of that time period.

I know thats what you're saying, but what I'm trying to say is that I think it's fair for people (whether they are from HT or another site or not) to join to vote in a best of Forge competition, as that relates to the entire Halo 3 community. As long as a vote was carefully considered it shouldn't matter if they only joined to vote.

The only problem should really be of determining if individual people made multiple accounts to vote with (but I don't think all of those accounts would be), or if people only joined to simply vote for a map because some well known HT members made it.

Either way, the best way to avoid another occurrence like this would be to only allow votes from members with 50 posts.
That way, it would be easy anyway, as people who just wanted to vote would spam for 50 posts, get banned, and have their vote cast out anyway.
