Best Of Forge Winners Announced

Best of Forge Winners

Spring/Summer '08

Welcome Hubbers, to the grand announcement of our Best Of Forge Contest for the first half of 2008!
After two stages of voting, we finally have the results for the best maps Forgehub has to offer in all 12 categories.

Now, after some sound reasoning, we have split the Race Maps category up into "Linear" and "Non-Linear" race maps, this way the two styles will be covered.

Without Further ado - the winners for the Best of Forge!

Best Overall:

Gridlocked

Created By: Draw the Line

Gridlocked is based off a simple concept, double boxes stacked in a grid-like layout, to create a mildly claustrophobic feel. This simple but precise set-up allows both amazing long range fire-fights and intense close-quarters encounters.

Runners Up:
Sewers - Shock Theta and rusty eagle
Different Level - sendernode

Best MLG:

MLG Hype

Created By: SuperFeiGn

Hype raises the bar for precision in forge, every object placed to have an impact on gameplay, and a layout designed to promote movement, skill and accuracy, as well as easy to learn call-outs for the more hardcore team games.

Runners Up:
MLG Lockdown - iTs_NeXn and KR0NIC SMOKE
MLG Reverence - Baron

Best Objective:

Kentucky Tango

Created By: Cosmic Rick

Kentucky Tango offers more than your average one-sided map, it combines an intuitive layout, both small and large aesthetic pieces and an amazing structural flair to allow for all styles of play to shine in all one-sided gametypes.

Runners Up:
Hangar 02 V2 - Insane54
Coldfront - LIGHTSOUT225

Best Design:

Reflex

Created By: Matty

Reflex virtually created a new style of forging when it was released, it's looming arches, beautiful offensive and defensive structures and amazing gameplay were an inspiration for many forgers, and still is today.

Runners Up:
Haymaker - BlazeIsGod
Cyclopean - NeverlessWonder

Best Slayer:

Renegade

Created By: TDHarding

Renegade, with it's arching bridges, carpet boxes and stylized hallways create an atmosphere that was never before seen in a forge map, it showed off the creators forging skill, whilst maintaining the gameplay we have all come to love.

Runners Up:
Sewers - Shock Theta and rusty eagle
Cyclopean - NeverlessWonder
Curbstomp - BlazeIsGod

Best Linear Race:

Wall Rider

Created By: killer200O

Wall Rider combines our advanced forging techniques and the creators knack for racing, to allow for up to 8 competitors to duke it out on one of the most enduring racetracks to date.

Runner Up:
Qr-sss x2 - Sqorck

Best Non-linear Race:

Brute Burnout

Created By: Vicious Vice

Brute Burnout, almost casual in nature, allows for players to tackle mighty jumps, tough corners, and destructible floors to race to the many check points around the map, which were placed with the greatest care, to allow for the prime racing experience.

Runner Up:
N/A

Best Mini-game:

Duck Hunt

Created By: WetBeaver

Based off the original NES game of the same name, Duck Hunt emulates the clay pidgeon blasting classic with un-parrallelled accuracy. It allows players to play as both the ducks, and the marksmen whilst flying over standoff, in a brilliant show of gravity-defying gameplay.

Runners Up:
Teamwerks Arena - Cosmic Rick
Jenga Tower - TurboGerbil and Cosmic Rick

Best Infection/Casual:

Lost Chamber

Created By: TrueDarkFusion and Sargeant Sarcasm

Designed around the Greek myth of the minotaur of Crete, Lost Chamber allows parties of all sizes to enjoy the confined feeling that is associated with the maps enclosed labyrinth. Peasant Hunt games often induce feelings of fear as you wander the halls of the cramped maze, and screaming is a common occurence when being attacked by the colossal minotaur.

Runners Up:
Nightfall - TimeGlitch
Snow Mice - Grif

Best Aesthetic:

End of the Line

Created By: Draw the Line

End of the Line boasts one of the most amazing large scale aesthetic features created in a map thus far. It includes a wonderfully crafted train, that is not only beautiful, but playable. End of the Line allows medium sized parties to appreciate the map at its best, with the surrounding landscape almost as stunning as the train that it showcases.

Runners Up:
E.L.I.T.E - CovenantElite07
Reflex - Matty
Dreadnaught - a-groeper

Best Original:

Distortion

Created By: buddhacrane

Distortion, one of the most head-ache inducing maps ever, is built at a precise 45 degree angle to allow players to run on almost every surface on the map. with an eerie resemblace to many of MC Eschers drawings, it is almost like an optical illusion, and a must play map for those of you interested in what is possible in forge.

Runners Up:
Pallet Parade - Cosmic Rick
Attention Deficit - Furious D 18

Best Technical:

Pallet Parade

Created By: Cosmic Rick

Pallet Parade sports one of the most ingenius features constructed in a map. it has a fully operable conveyor belt, that is controlled by a switch located next to the conveyor belt itself. The coneveyor belt carries players equipment and grenades when operated, and acts as a normal floor when inactive. Truly a miracle of forging.

Runners Up:
Bastion - Shock Theta and rusty eagle
H3A Slide Door - coyoteboy 1023

Congratulations to all of our winners! we hope to see more from you in the Autumn/Winter 2008 Best of Forge contest!

Congrats on all the winners, and even the runner-ups.

My favorite out of all of those maps would have to be Kentucky Tango, of and Pallet Parade, and Duck Hunt!

All of these maps should be in everyones fileshares.

I loved Best of Forge. I really liked the choice to create the new category in non linear and linear race tracks.

Although, because, forgehub isnt just occupied by Americans and that the seasons differ around the world, perhaps calling it the mid-year BoF and End of year BoF, etc.
