Minigame Amber Alert!

Minigame Amber Alert!
Written by TrueDarkFusion

What are the "Musings?"

It seems that over the past few months, the minigame genre of Forge maps has slowly begun to die out. I’m not sure if this is in part to certain renowned Forgers leaving the Forging scene and my break from Forging or if the disappearance can be attributed to something else entirely. One thing’s for sure though - minigames are disappearing and only you, the community, can help avert this crisis. Forge Engineers have been putting out large numbers of competitively based maps that seems to stem from the increasing popularity of MLG. Unfortunately the casual scene has been neglected lately, specifically the minigame genre. I will say that I have resumed Forging and have a couple of personal projects underway, but my projects alone cannot resolve this issue.

Many of you may have experienced some memorable moments on classic minigame maps such as Azkaban, Hobo Heights, Tremors, Cat N’ Mouse, and the recent Duck Hunt among others. You may notice that out of the five minigames I just named, four of them were created on the original maps a long time ago in a Forge far far away, while only one of the maps was created more recently on a DLC map. It is possible that the new Forge objects provided on the DLC maps removed creativity from the minds of many Forgers. When we used to Forge on the maps that came packaged with the game we would have to think outside of the box to get something done. Today with maps like Foundry to build creations on the same maps that were built on the original maps can be built quite simply, which devalues the 'think outside the box' attribute - to a certain degree at least. Why can’t we still think outside the box with all these great tools that were given to us and create something other than yet another MLG map?

I think the possibility is still there. In fact there is infinite possibility with the DLC maps that we can apply to create more casually based minigames. I am issuing a challenge to the community: create an original minigame map on one of the new DLC maps. Mess around in Forge and find something that has a unique property or a unique location that a minigame can be built upon. Thinking of childhood games or minigames from Mario Party or other titles may help spark an idea that can be applied to Halo. Original minigames are difficult to come by but once they are created and executed they are immortalized. Look at Cat N’ Mouse and Tremors. What TGIF can go by without a game on either?

Forge may inevitably be doomed to the grave when it is replaced by something bigger and better. Perhaps Bungie will improve on the concept of Forge in their next project. One thing is for certain though: Forge is long from dead, so there is no reason to halt our creations. Many thought everything had been discovered in Forge. Well there is still more out there. Just look back a week ago when a method to geolock movable objects tutorial was posted. The frontier of Forge is not closed. Plenty of creative ideas have yet to be executed and new methods have yet to be stumbled upon. Work diligently Hubbers and, Forge on. Your hard work is appreciated by Forge Hub and the community.

I love these short things!
Keep 'em coming!

anyways,
I'll try my hardest to come up with ideas!....even though I'm not so great at forging...

but I don't think Mini-Games are dead. I've played plenty. Like: Jenga, the Gears of War thing.... BERSERKER! that's what it's called :) , there's still plenty out there.

We need a separate listing for MLG, to a sub-section in competitive.

I still have yet to hone a good competitve map, and all of my minigame ones tend to suck. I've made a couple infection ones that I think are OK, but other than that....

I agree. It would be less hastle and br easier to find the sort of maps you are actually looking for.

As for the mini-games, they have lost their popularity and I too, hardly ever play on them. I'd say that the best ideas have been taken but on maps such as foundry, i'm sure many carnival/arcade games could be made. Ghost town doesn't have many opitions, as does Blackout. Competitive maps have dumped mini-games :(

It can be fun once in a while to play a mini-game as it is a nice break from the regular killing. Creativity has been lost and i think that if Bungie maybe brought out a map with more possibilities and movable objects for insance, this problem may be solved.

Then again, as i have said earlier, i am not an enthusiast, like many people but it would be nice to see something different in Halo 3.

(PS. TrueDarkFusion, you're getting + rep for bringing this up)

yeah there are some decent minigames out there you just have to look for them
sure some dont fit the perfect minigame genre but shouldnt a minigame just be that
a MINI GAME or a small game inside a larger one
look at mario party it is a board game wheere you play mini games some are retarded like washing a bus others aaare intertaining like bumper cars
or when yhou go to a carneval and sit down for some fun Shooting range (i made one) i have seen some decent mini games like i saw a decent bumpercars game with mongeese on foundry (i sugested it be moved to avalanch) but really minigames are not really respected here that much
i would really like to see some more minigame map packs featured
i really enjoyed the last few
and i had an awesome time last tgif in cat and mouse runing away from the cats while doin a wheele
PLEASE more minigame map packs
