WOW i really liked this post.. i was just browsing around on my comp before i hit the hay and i saw this post and it just grabbed my attention when i started to read it. and i would have to agree with most all of these points, so i will give this a good effort to try and make a new original. I'm not keeping my fingers crossed for any real gold here but i can always try.
Its the noobs man. All they do is create slayer and D-Day maps. :P I've created one mini game on foundry so far, and I have another that I just haven't made yet on avalanche. I should probably do that now that you mention it. Got the idea from a mini game on sonic shuffle. It has tons of(like 150)great mini games that could easily be remade for halo 3.
I'm not really surprised of this situation. It is really kinda hard to create a mini-game map. A good idea is always needed first no matter how good of a Forger you are. Good mini-game ideas don't pop-up a lot frequently.
I think the reason for the decline of good mini-game maps is because on all of the new maps there aren't many movable objects (or any on some maps). Immovable is meant more for making competetive maps and not mini games.
Even though foundry has a variety of movable objects, there just isn't that much space to utilize it for a mini-game. Also there isn't an area of death that you could fall into to give map makers a way to use that space creatively.
The solution would be to make immovable objects for the starting maps that didn't have any immovable objects (besides teleporters). But of course that won't happen...
to tell the truth,i'm working on a pretty good one right now. it's my first try at a mini-game map,so i can't guaratee it'll be perfect, but it's fun testing it with my friends.it's called colums.it's basically tag in a small, enclosed room wit colums everywhere so you don't really ever know where your at and you can use them for cover,as well as hiding spots.it's cool.
I'm glad you posted this. When I think about it, it's completely true! Nowadays with DLC we take for granted things even as simple as blocking an entryway. Although it is obviously a huge convenience to us, it takes away some of the old style forging had. I am the type of person who enjoys creative and casual maps more than competitive ones. I currently have multiple maps in production all of which I consider very creative. I started a Frogger map on Foundry which is difficult but I think will prove to be very entertaining. I also have a Cat N' Mouse idea which I plan to put in motion at some point in the not-so-distant future. I think trying to bring back Mini Games is a wonderful idea which will bring a lot of the fun back to future forging.
ive noticed that too. like i came back from 16 days in europe and there was only like 7 new games or something but im currently working on 2 mini games
