Ultimate Sketchup Template Compilation

Ultimate Sandbox Sketchup Template

by WhtButterflyLiz

Google Sketchup

I received permission to post this here, and I know it will benefit a lot of people in this community who like to plan their maps out in advance, or when they can't get to the xbox (like a certain working squid).

I've seen quite a few sketchup templates that help us out in Forge, but I've never come across one as detailed as this. All three areas of Sandbox are available to use as you see fit, and all of the major Scenery components (even teleporters and shield doors) are fully textured. It was created by WhtButterflyLiz, who works with sketchup for a living. She's even offered up a few tips on how to use it:
Quote:
-It's a rather large file because all the components are textured with screenshots of the actual object in Halo 3. By default I have the sand dunes turned off because they're a massive memory hog. They are on layer "Terrain" if you'd like to see them or render shots with them in. =)

-All of the components are accurate size in relation to the grid and one another. Whether the grid is actually 10' x 10' squares I can't guarantee.... but the only thing that is a best-guess approximate is the sand dune terrain itself.

-One thing that's a bit of a pain in the butt but I think is worth it : the skyline cylinder is invisible if you look at it from the outside (inside shows the panorama), but it is still selectable. So make sure you're actually inside the cylinder while trying to manipulate things or else you may inadvertently be changing the whole skybox component. The cylinder might get in your way, if it does just right click and select 'hide'.

-For those of you newer to sketchup - all of the forge-able scenery is already IN the file, you just can't see it automatically. You need to go to Window -> Components. Click that and a small window will pop up with a picture of a cube at the top, a few tabs under that, and a big white-space list under that. If you click the button that looks like a house just underneath the tabs, it will display all components in the model. At that point you should have a big list of items with pictures on the left and titles on the right. Titles match the ones in the game.

To get inside the crypt you double click on the crypt, which will open up the "skybox" component. If you then click on the crypt again you should get a group of three walls. Right click and select "hide" and they'll disappear, allowing you to work inside the crypt.
Now, this isn't going to be a "how do I use sketchup" tutorial. There are plenty of great tuts available elsewhere. This is meant for people who are already familiar with using sketchup and like to use these templates for concocting ideas. I'll try and help out where I can, but I'm not gonna teach you how to use it. Hope you all enjoy.
